blackdog Posted July 15, 2016 Report Posted July 15, 2016 (edited) Oh, the major… and "related" to the recent gambling talk: recently I saw advertised by one of the biggest companies that manage online betting (and betting "shops" I guess) is promoting gambling on CSGO and DOTA like football. Maybe is not even a new thing but I was surprised Edited July 15, 2016 by blackdog Quote
cashed Posted July 15, 2016 Report Posted July 15, 2016 The sites made money from ad services, no? Using valve's IP as the main income generator. Vorontsov 1 Quote

The gambling one based on coin flips etc got money from skins themselves. They had a positive statistical gain which allowed them to gain money while letting people play. Quote
El_Exodus Posted July 17, 2016 Report Posted July 17, 2016 Aaaand another one: "Gambling sites are scam sites" - i guess my sentence didn't fail yet, lol. So many shady businesses going on.. rosk, Logic, Fnugz and 1 other 4 Quote
RivFader Posted July 17, 2016 Report Posted July 17, 2016 (edited) I really wonder at what point both Valve, Youtube and Twitch will ban all the involved people from using their services. This warrants actions that make the Ibuypower ban look tame, tbh. Edited July 17, 2016 by RivFader Jetsetlemming, 'RZL and El_Exodus 3 Quote

They probably earned extra cash from people buying skins with the intent to gamble them away, but Valve can't police what you do with your skins after you've bought them. Yes, but that's not the point: Because these sites stimulate the skin economy, they create profit for Valve, giving Valve a disincentive to police them, even as they prey on Valve's customers using Valve's technology for inventory access. It's not hard to imagine that playing a role in why Valve took so long to address them, waiting until there was a big deal made in the media. blackdog and RivFader 2 Quote

There is so many angles to consider in this shit :/ Quote
Sprony Posted July 18, 2016 Report Posted July 18, 2016 In my humble opinion, Valve usually just throws enough mud against the wall in the hope that some of it will stick. Don't get me wrong, I love Valve and especially Steam, but you can't deny that a lot of things could have been handled better. Like Steam Greenlight, paid mods for Skyrim and now this. They only react when shit hits the fan and otherwise they don't seem to care that much. I don't know if you ever had to deal with customer support, but man, you don't wish that on anybody. The problem is that Steam has just turned into this enormous beast, which is difficult to handle let alone control. In that regard, I miss the old Valve. The one that actually made games instead of just running Steam and making hardware. Quote
RivFader Posted July 18, 2016 Report Posted July 18, 2016 Yeah, with the money they make it shoudl be easy for them to at least hire a few people that take care of Greenlight or actually make some bloody maps for CSGO. I really wish ervery map in the game was maintained like Cache and that we would get more original maps like Overpass. Jetsetlemming and Sprony 2 Quote

Hey at least they started relifting maps 4 years later ... 2020 will be the year of the next map and the year cs go will be ported to source 2. Sprony 1 Quote
cashed Posted July 18, 2016 Report Posted July 18, 2016 (edited) These are my thoughts on what CSGO should do. Create Seasons. 3-4 months long. Increase the active duty map pool Rotate Active duty list every season Reserves list has votes for 2-4 past operation maps (valve also throws in none voted to keep it fresh) Operations are shorter or last 2 seasons, but older maps become intertwined. Have season achievement drops. Edited July 18, 2016 by cashed blackdog, El_Exodus, Vorontsov and 3 others 6 Quote

To be fair the feeling is that big part of the community doesn't want change, that pro gamers can't perform if there are so frequent changes in the map rotation. Personally I have always agreed and "voted" for a seasonal approach to the game. They could throw in a community vote to decide couple of the maps for the following season, even if already present. After all teams in a tournament they could always veto them. Quote
