Sentura Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 turnip's text is boss, not so keen on the logo. it looks like it was made for an 80s industrial tool producer.
Rick_D Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 i like it, i like the professionalism of it, but it doesn't speak to me. i love the philosophy behind it, and the core of a cell, is a really great spin on it, but i just don't think it feels right. can't put my finger on it :embarrassed:
Puddy Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 I like mino's cube but I haven't really fallen in love with any text-variant so far... hmmm...
wilco Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 Just a mashup from my favourite bits of other people's logos so far, with a few suble added tweaks
Campaignjunkie Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 For precedent, we should look at what Polycount did: the greentooth logo has nothing to do with their earlier branding, they just started using it and now it feels "natural", whatever that means. I think Thurnip's is the best branding so far... like, I'd actually wear a shirt with the "M" logo. The cube with the core isn't as iconic, though we might immediately respond to it for now.
Thurnip Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 Hello people! Howdy? I'm glad that you liked the lettering =D @Mino I liked the cube! solid and basic approach.... I like! And is easier to make a negative version of it. @sentura @rick_D today im going to work on a version with the traditional mapcore cube, and with enough time, i'll work on another version of Cell-mapcore symbol. @Jenno: sure, you can make some studies with my textwork :bananawrench: @Campaign Junkie Totally agree the polycount brand is good cause you can use the symbol and typework... and both represents the "brand polycount" BTW, the deadline......... how much time we have yet? i need to set a timer to not lose deadline...
Thurnip Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 screw deadline... let's dnf this shit uhauhauha DNF hahahaha lets call George Broussard! haha
Thrik Posted August 2, 2011 Author Report Posted August 2, 2011 As you'll see from the first post the deadline has now been lifted entirely, although if things peter out for a number of days I'll call it to an end. With so much awesome creativity going on I'd hate to stifle it. This whole competition has been much more than I was expecting, the number of superb concepts is overwhelming. I don't know how we're even going to figure this out, especially if we have an awesome logo and an awesome text design that aren't part of the same design. Fuck that shit for now, just keep creatin'! I do really like the cell by the way, it is yet another great idea.
wilco Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 I really liked Thurnip's icon, something that could easily be quickly noticable as being 'mapcore' - hope you don't mind Thurnip but ive also done a little mashup using your M but slightly differently. This will probably be my last set, as I got tonnes of stuff to be getting on with
Zyn Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 Oh my, we need to start wearing white shirts and ties when browsing Mapcore then.
arhurt Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 I had not the time yet to touch up on my submission. I guess the easiest way to do it would be to create a pool with ALL submissions and variations and each person can have 3 or 4 votes. Then we take the 4 or 5 top ones and make another pool with one vote each Don't know what you guys think about it. Edit: I really like this variation of my submission: http://www.joeangus.com/images/core4.png
egu Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 Nice work you got there - the topmost one is my fav of your submissions. I'd personally just leave the symbol out of it, the typeface itself has modified O as a "core" and it does the trick by wrapping up the idea to the typeface. By adding the symbol it's like tårta på tårta, as the Swedes would put it, imho. Oh and dunno how tweaked your individual characters are at this point, but few pointers that came to my mind (nitpicking will follow, beware and don't pay attention if you want ): I'd scale the the O and C a bit to expand them over the x-height - just to make them visually as large as the other letters. The R letter is falling a bit to it's right, guessing the leg being a bit on the light side is to blame there. And E is just slightly too heavy. Seeing the logo only in small size might cause the issues above too. But all in all it rocks Good job.
