hl1 is awesome on lan... especially when you download some shitty maps and fuck around in them. i mean, really, it's fun as in you'll be laughing so much you cant breathe.

look around on the net for shitty maps, join some different servers to get the different maps downloaded. extreme crude maps are especially fun, since you can laugh at the designer's inability to design while blowing up everyone up with rpgs. my personal recommendation would be the map called rpgdm... i reckon it was made by flashdevil

Theres some awesome hl1 mods out there you might want to check out (svencoop, VS, ++++)

As some other peeps have mentioned, soldat is an excellent game to play in between the other games You can only play it for 20 minutes straight tops before you need to relax a little

Also, BroodWar is an excellent game to play all kinds of stuff on, theres so many different types of maps for it.

Dota, a custom map for wc3.. or just play wc3, most computers should be able to handle it.

Or you could just play wow.

great thread, we are having a lan party Friday and this gives us some ideas. We usually end up playing TF2 and a bunch of war3 maps.

We had a blast playing Canned Tuna and Turbo for HL1 back in the day. We'd also dick around with our own maps, however terrible they were (this was 2 years before I even though about releasing something, heh) for added ridiculous fun.

I had a stupid map called "airstrip" that used that brush F16 prefab on the middle of a long open runway, and I also couldn't figure out how to make the sky solid (this was pre-compile tools that did it for you) so I just made a teleporter that teleported you to the top of the map, triggered a scream, and sent your gibs raining down on the map below. It was awesome

Also, Soldat was a blast when we played that... Most of our other stuff was standard fare for the time (Q3, UT, TFC, CS).

Tower defense maps for Warcraft 3 are great fun! Plus all the other mod maps that are out there for it. I've had much fun with playing them with friends.

Another must is Rune, it's really old and insanly fun in multiplayer. Chop the arm off the enemy and then use it to beat him/her/it to death with it, viking style!

Alien swarm is crazy fun in coop, its one of the best. Its a UT2004 mod if you didnt know.

GTA2 is also very fun on small lan sessions.

Monopoly tycoon is also a hit. Its realtime monopoly, very intense business action.

Grim fandango speedrun competitions is fun too =).
