    Goals for 2019?

Cheers dude! I appreciate you opening up about it! I've been chatting to my brother and cousins about therapy, they all go.. They said they got a lot out of it. By the sounds of it, it's worth going, just to sorta help you work through things and organise your thoughts a bit more. I'm going to look into it this week!

    Goals for 2019?

Happy new year all! I've not been checking Mapcore much recently but thought I'd jump on and see what everyone's up to.. I really hope you all achieve your goals this year. 2018 was a great year for me.. I think. I struggle to see the positives sometimes! Anyway, I got married to my girlfriend of 10 years... We bought our first house, got a bloody DOG (who I love to bits. shes seriously just gorgeous and so friendly to everyone. She melts our hearts all the time!)... Work is really good fun though it can be hard to get motivated when working from home. But what I'm really chuffed with from a game dev standpoint is the fact that I finally started to learn blueprints in UE4, and I'm making my own little retro shooter. Hopefully one day I can release it, but I'm taking it one step at a time. I haven't had this much fun doing games stuff in... well, I can't even remember how long. It feels like a new world of things to explore! So, in 2019, here's what I want to do: Make lots more progress on my game. I'm not sure what's feasible really, but I think I can release a short demo online, towards the end of the year. Make more friends in my local area. We moved somewhere new, and live in more of a suburban neighbourhood in a smallish town, so I need to get out of my comfort zone and meet new people. Keep in touch more with old friends. God, I'm terrible at this. I had a pretty bad experience with some old school friends back at University (I was pretty depressed and didn't want to go home to hang out with them all, so I think they took it as me not liking them? Dunno, it was all a bit unresolved), and it kinda shook me a bit and I find it much easier to retreat into solitude rather than hang out. I need to sort this, and I've already made plans to meet up with Uni mates this year. Look after my mental health a bit more. I think I've suffered with depression for a while. Perhaps not a chemical imbalance (I don't want to try anti-depressants), but I think I would benefit from going to therapy. So that's something I'm going to do this year, see a therapist. Fuck knows what my issues are but maybe they'll come out when I'm there Look after my physical health. I gained a bit of weight this year due to various stresses, so I want to work out a little more. Play more piano. I finally got my piano back from home and brought it to my new house.. Need to practice more and get back up to my old standards! Write music. I think I'll write music for the game I'm working on, which is pretty exciting. No idea where to start Anyway, that's it I guess! Hope you're all good guys

Yup! If you grab it whilst it's free, it stays free forever.

    Red Dead Redemption 2

Anyone played any more of this? I sold it on Ebay after a week... I was just really bored. Well, bored isn't really the word.. I was doing a lot of hunting which was quite good fun but I just didn't care about the story. Maybe I'm just not that into Westerns or something? Not really sure, but it just didn't click for me. Looks beautifully realistic. Probably one of the most realistic games I've ever seen. But I don't think I really enjoy 'cinematic' games these days. I was the same with Uncharted. I think a lot of people are getting enjoyment out of the story and the characters and their progression, but I just had no interest in them. I think if I'd played this a few years ago, I'd have really enjoyed it, but I can't really justify the time sink now.

    Fallout 76

Counterpoint to everything I'm seeing about this game... One of my friends owns it and is really enjoying it, and he's a big Fallout fan. He said it was a bit buggy on release but after a few patches it's pretty great and he's having a fun time with it. I have no opinion really, just wanted to share what I've heard.

    Warcraft III: Reforged

Holy shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii I cannot wait for this. The soundtrack at 5:00 brings me right back to those early days playing this when it first came out. I'm so excited to jump back in!

    Red Dead Redemption 2

I'm enjoying it so far. Controls can be a bit clunky. I don't understand how they've built the world though... I'm looking for seams but can't find any on cliffs etc. Anyone got any idea how they did it? Looks like they're using decals or something to mask seams? Like, just go to a river and you'll see these cool mudslide type things on the side... Must be a model. But the transition to terrain is seamless.

That was a fuckin weird trailer. Look at the BF1 trailer.. I forgot how brilliant this trailer is. Really pumps you up and gets you wanting to play the game.

    Where'd Sprony go?

This thread was 2 pages long before. Now it's 1 page. Somebody's been deleting messages. I noticed fmpone's messages have gone. What is going on? *gets the popcorn out and chews curiously*

    Star Wars

I feel the exact way you do, Izuno. I hated some of the cringey character moments, and I felt that Luke was very underwhelming, but overall I loved it.

    Where'd Sprony go?

Oh! Hope he's alright. Can we a bit of transparency on the issue?

    Goals for 2018?

Gonna learn some new modelling software. I'm actually starting this year, with Modo. Really gonna push myself out of my comfort zone with the art I'm creating. Also, I'm marrying my girlfriend, I proposed last weekend And... buying a house. And mayyyyyyyybe might have a kid on the way at the end of the year too. Mental.

    The random model thread!

I've sorta dropped off the face of the earth recently. Decided to practice some Zbrush and Substance to keep my skillset 'sharp'! Did this over a few nights this week, it was good fun. Just an exercise in sculpting and creating nice fabric materials in Substance. Nothing groundbreaking More images and a Marmoset Viewer scene on my Artstation linked down the bottom. https://www.artstation.com/artwork/EoZ84

    Black Mirror

Really looking forward to the new series. Seems their budget gets higher with each new series too, which only makes em better Lovely visuals on some of the eps.

Fucking hell that trailer was annoying.

    Now playing - 2018

Every time somebody mentions they've just picked up KSP, I have to jump back into it. That game is the fucking shiz.

    Battlefront 2

I thought people were more pissed off with the fact that gameplay changing items are found in lootboxes? Ie, extra damage etc. Maybe I'm wrong. Is it just visual stuff in lootboxes? I don't mind that so much. I'm really interested in this game but I'm going to wait for the dust to settle on all this before I think about buying. My mates are going to do the same I think.

    Battlefront 2

I loved the bit in the original Star Wars trilogy where Luke Skywalker has to grind for credits to unlock his Jedi powers.

    Blade Runner 2049

Hopefully going to see it again on Monday. Can't fuckin wait. Movie of the year without a doubt.

Amazing environment art... Shitty gun sounds. Seriously, why does the gun sound like a regular gun you'd find on earth? That was really disappointing and underwhelming. I also hope the gameplay develops into something a bit more fresh. From what I saw, it just seems like your run of the mill 'creepy' shooter game. I wish they'd push the gameplay as much as they have done the environment art. Gameplay is the same as the original Doom...
