Algor Posted December 31, 2012 Report Posted December 31, 2012 Hotline Miami: Sorry About the Bosses Quote
Sprony Posted December 31, 2012 Report Posted December 31, 2012 I've finally finished Arkham City. The best game I've played in years. Not only did I beat the campaign, but I played both DLC as well (Catwoman and HQ's Revenge). I was so into it that I even completed all the side missions including the Riddler quest. Even though I hated collecting all the trophies (Youtube is your friend) it's definitely worth it for the Riddler rooms alone. This is the best Batman game to date. The only complaint I have is that HQ's Revenge isn't worth +/- 10 euros you have to pay for it on Xbox Live. It's too short for that. I've also beaten the Halo 4 campaign on Legendary. It's by far the most difficult Halo to beat on that level. That's because 343 did a couple of very annoying things to achieve that. Weapons you throw on the ground sometimes disappear making it more difficult to hold your ground and camp in really tough situations. Friendly AI is retarded which sucks because in some missions you do depend on them. For instance, the huge crawler got stuck because it drove over two Warthogs. In another situation I was relying on the AI to drive the Warthog but it couldn't navigate around a rock. But the most annoying thing is that doors seal the minute you step through making backtracking impossible. So you have to do everything with the weapons you have or that you might find. Really frustrating. On the bright side, it's a beautiful game. The prettiest I've seen on the Xbox to date. The campaign is entertaining and I enjoyed it overall but it's the first Halo I don't want to play again. Quote
-HP- Posted December 31, 2012 Report Posted December 31, 2012 I can't get into the Halo universe at all. I tried to force my way through Halo4 to check out the art but I can't stand that game, there, I said it. (Dead gorgeous art tho) Btw, for those who haven't yet, check out Retro City Rampage! Oh and I finished Dishonored! Damn fine game! I am so glad quality games like this are still being made and having good sucess sales wise. Quote
Taylor Posted December 31, 2012 Report Posted December 31, 2012 Never played the first one cause I heard it was too linear. FF XIII-2 has weird balancing though. I find that in most areas I can kill regular monsters with no problem at all (most in under 10 secs lol) but every time I reach a boss I never have high enough level to beat it at first. There's also this really annoying thing that if you take too long in a battle the enemy casts doom and then you have like 1 minute before you die. Also wish there was a way to know the monsters' levels before going into a new area. It's pretty weird how some areas with high level monsters get unlocked very early in the game where you can get easily raped by even the crappiest mobs. Yeah, Final Fantasy XIII is extremely linear. Not only are the environments a straight line but the character progression and “press X” battle system are also devoid of any meaningful interactions. It’s like fractal linearity. Urk, I can feel a rant coming on. Must resist. Quote
Erratic Posted January 1, 2013 Report Posted January 1, 2013 Bought Shinobi PS2 while failing to find King's Field in the playstation store, guess it's Europe/Japan only or something . It's pretty great. Also bought Vagrant Story for some reason. Maybe I'll enjoy a JRPG that isn't super mario rpg for once. Quote
Taylor Posted January 1, 2013 Report Posted January 1, 2013 Have you played any of the Megami Tensei or Nippon Ichi games? I've spent muchos hours on those. Quote
Erratic Posted January 1, 2013 Report Posted January 1, 2013 (edited) I almost bought persona 4 awhile back but that's about as close as I got. Edited January 1, 2013 by Erratic Quote

PhilipK Posted January 2, 2013 Report Posted January 2, 2013 Just been trying some demos lately. Unfinished Swan - seemed like it could be something kind of interesting, but the demo didn't reveal a lot. in the demo you only do the same thing all the time. makes me wonder if that's the whole game... I'm afraid it'd get boring pretty fast even if it could be fun as an exploration game (if there's something more to it) Zombie Driver HD - same deal, could see myself enjoying it for a while but it seems like it'd get very repetitious fast. And it had horrible frame rate on the PS3. Almost to the point where it's unplayable... Also been playing some Chivalry. Great game and it gets really intense at times when you are playing on full servers. Feels like you can improve your skills a lot by just keep playing, good combos and small tricks to learn all the time. It looks really good most of the time too. Well worth the $12 I payed for sure. I really need to hook up my PC to the TV so I can start using Steam's Big Picture... Just need to get that really, really long hdmi cable and a wireless controller. Almost worth having a dedicated PC for that next to the TV. But then again I'd rather wait for the Steam console for that. -HP- 1 Quote
ElectroSheep Posted January 3, 2013 Report Posted January 3, 2013 Replaying Dark Soul on PC this time. Yup ! Still good. Quote
Algor Posted January 3, 2013 Report Posted January 3, 2013 Yep I had to start a new character to see the Artorias of the Abyss DLC (killing the final boss starts game over in NG+), but it was worth it! Great DLC Quote
Thrik Posted January 3, 2013 Report Posted January 3, 2013 I nearly broke down into tears of frustration trying to get this to work satisfactorily today, but now I am weeping tears of joy while playing through old favourites like Donkey Kong Country and Yoshi's Island. It occurred to me I could install all the emulation shit on my work laptop and plug it into my TV. That was the plan, which worked in the end but involved:Special wires needed because my laptop outputs Mini-HDMI rather than HDMIBluetooth receiver needed to get my PS3 controller to work with the PC wirelessly (which is awesome when it actually works BTW); there were endless driver issues getting this to work thoughNeeded even more cables because there was too much audio lag when plugging into the TV and then outputting the sound via my audio system, so now I'm going through the HDMI-enabled audio receiverLots of emulator configuration required to get the right balance of speed and prettiness on a relatively average laptop So basically: Jesus fuckin' CHRIST. But it's all worth it, and now just as I'm ready to enjoy the fruits of my labour I have to go to bed for work tomorrow. But this weekend...! One thing emulators will always have over re-releases like on the Wii virtual console: increased quality. DKC looks so great with the smoothing filters that make the pixel jaggies look like soft lines, and the music is better than ever as the emulator can output at a far better level of quality than an actual SNES ever could. Yeah it's not quite authentic, but they would so have put out CD-quality audio if they could. Of course I'd still have chosen to avoid all this hassle if Nintendo hadn't removed all the DKC games from the virtual console. -HP- 1 Quote
ElectroSheep Posted January 4, 2013 Report Posted January 4, 2013 Ha yes ! I'm on the last levels of Yoshi's island ! Quote
syver Posted January 7, 2013 Report Posted January 7, 2013 Last night i dreamt that I was at Valve playing Half-Life 3. Most of my dream consisted of me just playing and having so much fun with it. However, It turned into a nightmare when i realized that the game was so good that it had reached the pinnacle of game design forever. Everything after it would be so much worse, so there would be no reason to make games anymore. I started crying ...then my phone alarm woke me up... as for irl; i just played through max payne 3 which was pretty good, but the story and production values was what carried it the entire way.
