Albatros Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 Hi again... Well, I found that this nighttime lighting definately creates a wonderful fuzzy athmosphere for christmas shopping or having a sausage, but fits extremely bad into a ww2-scenario (last but not least due to the functioning street lights - chances for electricity working on full scale in such a desolated city should be close to zero). Consequently I created a new ambience... I'll reduce the fog a lot, also I beg you to overlook obvious texturing/brushwork deficites, those will of course be fixed as soon as goes. Cheers! Quote
⌐■_■ Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 I guess the lighting could use some brown/orange? Looks good btw! Quote
the0rthopaedicsurgeon Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 There aren't many long distances in those screenshots to see how far the fog goes, but I like it how it is now, it gives it a more dusty/desaturated look. The last shot looks like the end value might be too low, but you should at least keep the start value at/around zero to give it that washed out, softer look. Oh that has a lot of potential the0rthopaedicsurgeon imo. I really like what you've done with the skybox already! The mountains are tiling textures taken from a couple of photos, not stock CSS ones, but I'll probably put them on a model cylinder eventually as someone mentioned. I've worked more on the map the last few days, everything looks a bit plain still until I make some more signs, but I need to work out what they all say first. And as I mentioned with the screens of the other map in this campaign, the trees are Hessi's from de_corse, they'll be replaced once I make my own, unless L4D comes with some decent ones of its own. Psyshokiller Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 Thats gorgeous stuff Method. The high specularity adds an extra little bit somehow. Quote
FrieChamp Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 A lot of this stuff is worth posting in its own, seperate thread - so why not giving your work the attention it deserves instead of cluttering up this one? (goes to everyone posting pics of cool maps in the previous 2-3 pages) Quote
spine Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 Nice work Albatros, the lighting is sweet atm! thats an awesome screen FMPONE, make more! Quote
Albatros Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 Wouldn't be half as good without those textures of yours . @FrieChamp: Aye, true that. My project is way too early for that, though.. it's always kind of odd when the final result on page xx of the thread doesn't bear any similarity with the opening post . Now that the basic lighting and style is adequate, I'll just work on it until I've got enough material for an own thread. Cheers! Quote

This is what the WIP Level Gallery section of the forum is really about though - posting "Work in progress" shots of your level. It isn't meant to be a work showcase, that is what "finished work" is for Since you are posting in this thread (which is in the WIP level gallery section) you and the others aren't doing anything wrong per sé, but this thread was meant to be for stuff that offers only very little to show or is very early in development. By posting all your stuff in here the rest of the forum falls short, work falls through the cracks and you will probably not receive as much feedback as when posting an own thread. In the end it's still up to you though when you think you got enough material to show in an independent thread. I'm just trying to motivate people to open more own threads around here, don't be shy guys Quote
mabufo Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 I'll probably just release mine in the next day or so... It's been sitting on my HD uncompleted for long enough. I'll just add the soundscape, fix the lightmaps, and kick it out the door. (and I did fix those railings) Quote
Furyo Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 It's been forever since I last posted WIP screens, so here are two of my new DoD project. Even the name of the map is undefined, so that goes to show the map still has long ways to go. I just wanted to go for a semi polished look in one of the buildings, for motivation purposes Some textures have changed, namely the frescos on the pillars, that didn't tile. Lighting should be somewhat finished in those shots. Quote
