Furyo Posted June 28, 2011 Report Posted June 28, 2011 I'd be very interested in some download stats for that patch and how many people are actually running that patch. As a test drive of the PC gaming community so to speak. I personally find myself absolutely totally uninterested by the update, which is probably a sign I'm more of a console gamer than a PC gamer by now....or maybe not even a gamer at all. It's all gfx porn to me and doesn't raise the quality of the GAME in any way...but oh well. Quote
Vilham Posted June 28, 2011 Report Posted June 28, 2011 Personally im only interested in the tools, but when I get the game I will update as I might as well. It will only make my own work look better. Quote
sarge mat Posted June 28, 2011 Report Posted June 28, 2011 Performance is still pretty good with everything at max and motion blur off. Quite a noticeable difference, great job guys. Quote

First and foremost, as you said yourself, you are a console gamer so whether or not a puddle reflects accurately or not, it does not impact your judgment of the game as a entertainment piece, and well, yeah, it shouldn't. But Crysis2 is not only a game, it is also a benchmark title for CryEngine3, modders and possible future licensees will look at this tech with different eyes now, after seeing what it can do, both on PC and consoles. If PC's are faster and stronger than consoles, why not take advantage of that and actually use it, and It's a free anyway. Also, as you know, some companies do certain things really well, and others not so good. What Crytek does best, is graphical beauty and benchmark, and It's staying true to it's roots and one's got to respect that. It's the same for almost everything in life, if you as a individual are really good at something specific, it makes you valuable. Crytek has always been the best in it's field, and it wants to keep that spot in the podium. Quote
Rick_D Posted June 28, 2011 Report Posted June 28, 2011 i think it's a shame there wasn't a huge push to get that level of awesomeness on consoles though. Quote
Skacky Posted June 28, 2011 Report Posted June 28, 2011 Blame that on their shitty hardware. Anyway that's amazing, some of these shots are truly mindblowing, especially the one with the concrete block and the metal handler thing. Too bad the texture itself looks a bit lowres, or it's maybe just me. You should have released it when the game hit the stores though. Not that I complain, but it would have impressed people a lot more IMO. Quote
Furyo Posted June 28, 2011 Report Posted June 28, 2011 Oh I'm not missing any of that point. As a gamer, or consumer, I couldn't care less. As a licensee, I definitely would. And I definitely respect that Crytek not only identified its stronghold but also wants to stay true to it. It just makes me all that more uninterested in it, because that's just not what I want as a gaming experience. Show me substance over beauty, show me that the form follows the function therefore art follows design then I'll be interested. Running and shooting the same grunts for hours is not exactly my idea of fun But I'm glad Crytek is finally releasing this patch. It's good to see companies showing some love to PC users. Although this patch won't make me fire up the game again, I'm eager to open that editor (when it's out) and check out all the tech awesomeness and how you guys put together such a huge game Quote
Rick_D Posted June 28, 2011 Report Posted June 28, 2011 I actually really enjoyed the game Just like I really enjoyed Crysis 1 even though people shit all over it. Dunno what the problem is, were people expecting Half-Life? Quote
Furyo Posted June 28, 2011 Report Posted June 28, 2011 I enjoyed parts of the game, much like I enjoyed parts of C1. Every part that felt designed rather than a marketing bulletpoint or a benchmark to be precise. Cue "Alien ship and VTOL flying freaking sucked balls" comments. Funny how the alien ship was directly followed by the best part in the game with you escorting your pal from heat point to heat point. THAT was designed. Same thing with C2: Battery Park is the most heavily designed level in the entire game, and it also plays the best. Because everything in it was well thought out by Chris and his artists. Hand in hand, working together. I'd say the same thing of Downtown and Spear, and potentially Warehouse. Quote
