Evert Posted January 22, 2008 Report Posted January 22, 2008 So by using stock content with the right pixel density on some pillars you are stealing? Seriously, look at the scene, why would he steal such a minor detail, when he obviously has such talent? Stop accusing people, especially when remaking/stealing the design of an entire game. Level looks nice, still has to get TF2 ;o Quote
insta Posted January 22, 2008 Report Posted January 22, 2008 Like I said on MSN Skdr, its looking good. Have you got a overview screenshot or sketch? Quote
JeanPaul Posted January 22, 2008 Report Posted January 22, 2008 congratulations JP for finding that... :-| I understand you have, apparently with BM, had a bad history with stolen art assets, I've had it happen to me too. You could be a bit less harsh, though, in the accusations and presenting of your evidence. Not like he replied to your first post on it like, "nuh uh man it's all 100% me". a pet peeve.. okay then, still a little like you're making a larger deal than needed. Map is looking great skdr! Can't wait to see what ya did with the blue sky. This is probably one of the more annoying things about this website. You guys are way too sensitive. I didnt make it a big deal, I just proved my point, that is all. And plus I already said that I liked the map, I just wanted to show that you dont always get away with stealing shit. Quote
Meotwister Posted January 22, 2008 Report Posted January 22, 2008 lol well my point is it didnt need to be proven.. thats what I was talking about. but whatev, no biggie right. I just wanna see some more unhindered mapping goodness! Quote
m8nkey Posted January 22, 2008 Report Posted January 22, 2008 Even if SKDR was directly influenced by that work, it doesn't constitute stealing in my books. SKDR never proclaimed to invent the supported bridge. If I'm trying to create an environment or effect and I know it's been done before I'll definately take a look and be influenced by it. I'm constantly looking at other peoples brushwork, levels, models, textures, effects etc (both commercial and amatuer) similar to what I'm trying to achieve. Sure inovation and originallity are very important but so is the ability to recognise and impliment things which have already been done, especially when building upon stock content. If someone was influenced by my work I'd consider it a compliment, not acuse them of theft. Quote
skdr Posted January 22, 2008 Author Report Posted January 22, 2008 I made those catwalks from scratch using the same textures Valve used on Granary. I can't believe you've taken so much time to prove yourself that they're "stolen" from Granary. I can point out many details from someone else's TF2 map which are "stolen" if I want to but I'm not going to bother. I'm just using the same style they have in TF2 just because this is a TF2 map, right? It's not called stealing, it's called keeping the art direction and look of the mod you're mapping for and with limited assets, there's nothing much to improvise with catwalks. Quote
Ginger Lord Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 Trust me, after being on the Black Mesa team for as long as I have been, you start to get really good at finding stolen work. Guess you didnt spot the fact the support beams are at a completely different angle then. I didnt make it a big deal, I just proved my point, that is all Going out and getting screenshots, circling them and then accusing people of stealing doesnt seem to fit the "not making it a big deal" philosophy. Eitherway, he didn't copy them Quote
PogoP Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 There's only a certain amount of ways, in terms of architectural structure, one can make a metal walkway, suspended 20 metres in the air, stand without collapsing. Come on, something that simple is not really worth bothering about... Quote
JeanPaul Posted January 25, 2008 Report Posted January 25, 2008 Way to prove my point, guys :-| Quote
Thrik Posted January 25, 2008 Report Posted January 25, 2008 Prove your point about what? You're the one who took it upon yourself to take a bunch of screenshots, draw circles on them, and moan about the stolen material. If Granary were a custom map then your criticism would be justified, but it's common fare to take materials and assets from the host game if it's a map for the same game. I seriously can't even begin to comprehend why you thought it was worthwhile pointing out the similarity. It's like someone making a Half-Life 1 map, using various assets from Half-Life 1 itself (happened all the time), and then calling them out on it. I honestly can't see what could have been going through your mind. If skdr had made a map for another mod or game then fair enough, but it's a TF2 map. How is it having content from other parts of TF2 something to criticise? It's not like skdr even said all his content is custom. Nobody's being over-anything here except you, JP. Quote
JeanPaul Posted January 25, 2008 Report Posted January 25, 2008 I meant about being over sensitive. But whatever really Quote
FrieChamp Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 French. Lol. Keep it constructive Dux. Quote
dux Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 Why it's just JP being a nubbin plucking at random rubbish as usual. Quote
FrieChamp Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 And what does him being french have to do with anything? Everyone please stop littering the thread for a very promising map (this includes taunts just as weak accusations). Quote
