DrywallDreams Posted January 28, 2016 Report Posted January 28, 2016 this game has a LOT to it that isn't immediately apparent. I started going through some of the data out of curiosity, and it looks like I've only scratched the surface in terms of story after ~20 hours and finishing most main puzzles. If you want the game completely fresh, don't look at the subtitles. The game has something really interesting I have yet to find that makes it much, much more interesting. blackdog and -HP- 2 Quote
blackdog Posted January 30, 2016 Report Posted January 30, 2016 Apparently is bein pirated a lot Quote
-HP- Posted January 30, 2016 Report Posted January 30, 2016 (edited) lol... at the same time, it's also Steam's top seller since they opened pre-orders last week http://store.steampowered.com/search/?filter=topsellers Edited January 30, 2016 by (HP) Quote
blackdog Posted January 30, 2016 Report Posted January 30, 2016 Yeah I can't see how they wouldn't be able to get enough money for another game.People is probably pirating it because of what I was saying… it seems too minimal and not varied in terms of activities that probably people are afraid to waste money. AlexM Posted January 31, 2016 Report Posted January 31, 2016 lol... at the same time, it's also Steam's top seller since they opened pre-orders last week http://store.steampowered.com/search/?filter=topsellersWhen Jon posted on twitter about it, steamspy was reporting 23000 copies sold. Steamspy still only says 38k copies sold. http://steamspy.com/search.php?s=the+witness Quote
clankill3r Posted January 31, 2016 Author Report Posted January 31, 2016 One of the latest tweets from Jon:It's hard to talk about numbers without breaking NDAs, but The Witness is on track to sell more in a week than Braid sold in its first year, AlexM 1 Quote
blackdog Posted February 1, 2016 Report Posted February 1, 2016 Yeah what @clankill3r reported. From the numbers above its something like 500-1000 copies per hour in the first three days, and it's just steam. Not something to complain I would say. And he's going to publish on iOS as well (or is it already?), where those kind of games do well.i know it bites to know you're being ripped off, but like I think all of us can agree, pirated copies are not 1:1 to sold copies. Maybe if they put out a demo would be different. -HP- 1 Quote
-HP- Posted February 1, 2016 Report Posted February 1, 2016 Any word on a VR release? The game looks very well optimized to run on there. FMPONE and blackdog 2 Quote
clankill3r Posted February 1, 2016 Author Report Posted February 1, 2016 I know Jonathan has a HTC Vive. I expect that they work on bug fixes for something like 2 months. If a iOS release is still planned then that probably follows and after that VR. This is just a guess but I won't expect it anytime soon, I estimate in 4 months. Quote
DrywallDreams Posted February 1, 2016 Report Posted February 1, 2016 Any word on a VR release? The game looks very well optimized to run on there.there's a VR mode that is activated with the -vr flag. I'm curious as to how well it works, there's a lot of stuff I think might get messed up when dealing with two eyes, and a few parts that might straight up be the puke zoneit was added at the same time as steam controller support, and the steam controller support is just an old controller config in the game's directory (which no longer works), which may something about the state of vr support too. AlexM Posted February 2, 2016 Report Posted February 2, 2016 Yup sounds like Jon was freaking out too early. Looks like he'll be making his money back no problem Quote
Sentura Posted February 2, 2016 Report Posted February 2, 2016 At least he was being nice about it, seems like he's had a change of attitude since he released Braid. And just to point this out, piracy numbers aren't equal to lost sales numbers. A person pirating something wasn't necessarily going to buy said something if they weren't able to anyway. AlexM 1 Quote
clankill3r Posted February 2, 2016 Author Report Posted February 2, 2016 Yeah, I pirated a lot of call of duty singleplayers. Recently I bought COD 2 modern warfare since it was the first time for a price I would like to spend on it. Quote
Pampers Posted February 3, 2016 Report Posted February 3, 2016 Man, I love this game. Taking it nice and slow, refusing to look at any solutions or tips online. Makes solving puzzles I've been stuck on very satisfying when I finally get it -HP- and AlexM 2 Quote
