Nysuatro Posted December 26, 2009 Report Posted December 26, 2009 Damn I thought I was someone who knew a lot of movies. looks like this is a good source. Quote
ReNo Posted December 27, 2009 Report Posted December 27, 2009 Cool thread, I've just ordered a few of these as a result. My contribution is "Dark Hour", or "La Hora Fria" to give its original name. It's a 2008 Spanish horror/sci-fi movie about a group of people who are forced to live in some kind of bunker to avoid the threat of the "strangers" and "invisibles" - 2 different types of entity that are extremely dangerous to the survivors. The film joins this group after they have clearly been living in the bunker for some time, and follows their daily routine and fight for survival. It isn't perfect - some of the acting is mixed, and the action scenes can be a bit poor - but it presents a hugely intriguing world that really makes you wonder about the backstory. Where are these people? When is it set? Are they the only survivors? You're left to figure out your answers to these questions as the movie goes on rather than being spoon fed all the facts about the situation, and I found it to be really quite captivating. I'd highly recommend it. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0484273/ Quote
Warby Posted January 1, 2010 Author Report Posted January 1, 2010 so i finally gotten around to seeing some of your recommendations i saw outland with sean connery and have nothing nice to say about it except that i liked the set designs and matte paintings... but the american astronaut iS FUCKING EPIC ! highly recommended !!!!!!!!!!! andi t remidned me of another movie that really shoudl have been in my first list of movies SIX STRING SAMURAI: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118736/ very similar to the american astronaut: Quote
Skjalg Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 You mean you have nothing nice to say about it except that Sean Connery was in it, and therefor it was gold! ? (ps: Sean Connery makes everything gold). Quote
jaboo224 Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 Maybe not low budget (but they didnt spend much to market it) however it is a GEM. Sunshine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sp8TenEjzFw Some would argue that the third act (please dont spoil it) is a bit odd however I enjoyed it . As well i think Moon is going to be one of these GEMS :} Quote
dux Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 God I hated sunshine so fucking boring Quote
jaboo224 Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 God I hated sunshine so fucking boring How did you find it boring? Its visually stimulating I love the dialog and everything about that movie haha. The movie does good nods to 2001 and solaris Quote
Warby Posted January 2, 2010 Author Report Posted January 2, 2010 loved sunshine ! its not really low budget enough but it is a gem ! also watched the american astronaut again today definitely improves on repeat viewing also perfect to just have on while you work Quote

Warby Posted January 3, 2010 Author Report Posted January 3, 2010 i remember that show and rewatched it last year its occasionally brilliant but most of the time its just too fucking oldschool/medievil ... also i don't get the characters ... i would have stayed at that french vinyard with the 20 or so attractivee virgin teenage girls ... whats wrong with those guys ! i think the books are actually currently being remade into a trilogy of movies http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0441811/ there were on and off rumors about this for a while ! ( gotta love the music though !!!! ) Quote
Steppenwolf Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 yea the show isn't aged that well. but still it was one of my favourite when i was a kid. so scary Quote
Warby Posted August 19, 2010 Author Report Posted August 19, 2010 okay i just saw this: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1470827/ at the fantasy film festival here in hamburg ( that they seem to have bi annual now ) and i LOVED it the director was present and gave a small qa after wards which made the whole experience even more enjoyable/exciting i must admit ! for the first time ever i felt that the clapping at the end of a good movie ment something i am not gonna say anything about the plot i think the less you know about the movie the better lets just say its not what you would expect ! (dont go an expect an action movie) i had a quick chat with the director after the movie and squeezed out of him that he used 3d studio max and did all of the fx shots himself * i was super stunned when he said that* he dodged the question about the budget in the qa but its rumored that its roughly 15k pounds ! highly recommended i you like one or more of these films: el mariaci the abyss jurassic park primer jarhead district 9 stalker cloverfield war of the worlds ( the spielberg one ! ... this movie does what spielberg version attempted and failed at ! ) go see it ! Steppenwolf Posted August 19, 2010 Report Posted August 19, 2010 Was Alphaville ever mentioned in this thread? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058898/ Also Splice if you haven't seen it already: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1017460/ Maybe not exactly low budget but doesn't feel like AAA either. Quote
Minos Posted August 20, 2010 Report Posted August 20, 2010 Watched this the other day, the story was nothing special but it had some cool environments! And Sean Connery is fucking badass! Quote
