Minos Posted June 25, 2012 Report Posted June 25, 2012 Stop whining about old movies and enjoy this one for what it is Quote
Puddy Posted June 25, 2012 Report Posted June 25, 2012 I loved the characters in Alien. Too many generic grunts in Aliens... Quote
dux Posted June 25, 2012 Report Posted June 25, 2012 Generic? How are hudson, hicks, vasquez and apone generic? Quote
Sprony Posted June 25, 2012 Report Posted June 25, 2012 I'm with Dux here. There's nothing generic about them. It's because they are vastly different that we remember them so fondly. Quote
Nysuatro Posted June 25, 2012 Report Posted June 25, 2012 I liked prometheus Please do not shoot me. Quote
Sprony Posted June 25, 2012 Report Posted June 25, 2012 I enjoyed it too. Don't worry. I just expected more Quote
PogoP Posted June 25, 2012 Report Posted June 25, 2012 Yeah, Mino, we're not whining... Just talking about it lol. I loved Prometheus Quote

It's because they are vastly different that we remember them so fondly. I dunno, I just felt their characters were smothered in army-lingo and badassness and I did not find them very memorable. I'm not saying they were ALL bad or terrible; I'm mainly saying I preferred the cast of the first film. Quote
PogoP Posted June 25, 2012 Report Posted June 25, 2012 My girlfriend watched Aliens for the first time last night and she said a similar thing about the Marines being way over the top. Hudson in particular is such a whiny little git. "GAME OVER MAN, GAME OVER!" However, when they realise they are stuck on LV 426 and that initial cockiness disappears, the characters get a little more depth and calm down a little bit. Hudson sort of settles down a bit and stops with the banter when he gets something to actually do to help the situation. I think the characters are purposely meant to be annoying and cocky; it makes them more likeable when they are resigned to their fate and stop hiding behind the Marine facade. Quote
Sprony Posted June 25, 2012 Report Posted June 25, 2012 I couldn't have said it better myself PogoP! Quote

I'll have to see what I think the next time I watch it. I mean a lot of the problems I see with their characters relate to the fact that Aliens is a lot more action-adventure-oriented and that the characters simply reflect that fact (like saying some cool comments before blowing yourself up in a vent for example). In other news, I plan on seeing Prometheus again this weekend! Just to give it another go and bask in it's visual awesomeness. Quote

knj Posted July 20, 2012 Report Posted July 20, 2012 just came back from cinema, finally saw this, and was a good movie (great design and visuals) but i was expecting a lil bit more, maybe i wanted to be a lil bit more alienish, dont know Quote
amycompton Posted August 23, 2012 Report Posted August 23, 2012 Felt pretty much exact same way after hearing about it. Even though I don't have the hate-hard on for all his recent stuff like a lot of people , there is still this weird sense that it might turn to shit, given how long this thing has been talked about.
