Heh, sorry about the waiting. I was actually on a trip to Sudbury so I couldn't work on the map. And my birthday also happened too ?

I'm still working on it, it's just that I'm having a bit of a hard time making mid work with the theme (Hence why the original layout was pretty boring). I might just have to make a different theme if it really comes down to it  (Something that would probably be more forgiving than a 60's-era dead mall) since I don't want the theme to get in the way of the layout, and it's kind of my own fault for picking something so difficult to work around. But I'll try my best!

It's very likely I'll just reserve this theme for a 2 part Co-op Strike style map (One set before and one set after being abandoned) since I think It would work better for that, and I don't wanna have all the custom assets go to waste.

Guess what? This map ain't dead! I've decided to resume development on it since I've been wanting to do a dead mall theme for years, yet I never did it for some odd reason.

Now I know it has a lot of flaws that need attention, but I'd just like to address the most important one: Lighting. Before, the map was very dark since I was only lighting it up with dark colored lights for ambience. But I've decided that I shouldn't let realism get in the way of a potential map. So I've turned the power on in the building! In real life this would have likely caused a fire 10 or so years after being abandoned, but this ain't real life, it's a game! After all, this map literally has flags that have been flying since 1966! Also, I've added some construction lights to a few areas, just to support the idea of the asbestos abatement that's going on.

So hopefully with some of the lights on, it should have more Clarity, (Obviously not ALL the lights are on, some have burned out, have fallen out, or have been broken/stolen by looters) I'll be sure to address the layout soon as well :)

Here's a peak at the new underground offices area!

This sign marks the entrance.

Here's the office of the former owner of the mall.20190911113005_1.jpg.019a8acf3d89a849c6fd3294f97852d9.jpg

This is an old photo of the mall owner. I'm sure y'all know who's in that picture IRL, it's me!

And lastly, this is a note left behind by the owner 2 weeks before the place was abandoned. Try and find these types of notes around the map, they'll tell you lot's about the lore.

Now I'm 100% aware that this won't be finished in time for the deadline, but that doesn't mean it's all over! I'm still working on the layout to ensure that it's not as boring as it used to be.

This screenshot is a little test of the lights. 1 is working and has the glass cover still on it, and the other is burned out.

This reminds me of when I used to do P2 mapping. I never finished any of my P2 maps since I moved to CS:GO before that could happen, but this reminds me of making abandoned levels where I could have a lot of fun with the lighting.

Currently I'm working on making models for the map along with the layout, I'll hopefully have some new stuff for y'all soon!

So I'm currently working on the offices some more. The big idea with this area is that it's an underground link between a few carefully chosen parts of the layout. Speaking of which, I'm experimenting with more layout ideas on the ground floor as well, since I'm really excited to play around a bit more with that.

In the meantime, here's something I added to the basement: Water! Obviously it needed it since well... It's an abandoned basement! Haha! But I also love the real time reflections that it adds too! I just gotta worry a bit about the optimization since it does show parts of otherwise hidden world no longer being drawn. But that's not important right now. I'll see y'all with another update soon!

(And yes, that wall at the end of the corridor will be replaced with more pathways really soon. I have so many ideas for this part of the map!)

It's been 42 years, and we're STILL waiting for the place to reopen! (Which it will because it's being renovated, but ya know what I mean)

The real question is how on earth has the TV been on for nearly half a century and not burned out long ago!

As for some news on the layout, the basement is almost ready! I can't wait to test out the addition of it!

    • [CS:GO] Shore
One of the projects I worked on after I made de_austria.

Yeah, I know the timing is really bad (CS2!), but can't change it... 🙁

In general a lot went wrong during this project. Had a lot of problems with the layout, but I think I found a good compromise in the end. Also learned many new things. Maybe I would even be ready to create a really good map now after all, but I think that it's gonna be the final one. I really like making maps, but it has become too time consuming over the years for just being a hobby. Unfortunately I never managed to get a job in the games industry. So that's it. I hope it's a worthy ending of 20 years of making maps for me. 🙂

Shore is a bomb defusal map for CS:GO that takes place on Lofoten Islands, Norway. (Also have a Hostage version of this that works well imo)
