Sindwiller Posted August 15, 2006 Report Posted August 15, 2006 the only reason shit like "sudo apt-get install update" seems complicated is because you've grown up on windows. it just takes some getting used to. YOUVE GOT IT MAN!!!! HAHAHAHA You just won the thread. That kind of attutide is why Linux is never going to become mainstream. Linux was never mainstream. And it wont become mainstream. I wish, computers werent mainstream at all. @ Those silly comments: Yes, i am 12. Im not a grown man and im not pretending to be 12. Quote
Ginger Lord Posted August 15, 2006 Report Posted August 15, 2006 Seriously, go live a life. Edit: When I was twelve me and my mates would be outside at the crack of dawn, go off up the woods and just do stupid stuff like burn stuff, make tree houses and be...well...12 year olds. We'd come in when it was dark and watch TV and then go to bed. Not sit at a PC and discuss the apparent fine points of Linux. Edit: I need to take you and Vivi to the barbers. Quote
Duff-e Posted August 15, 2006 Report Posted August 15, 2006 yeah go drink..trust me it will save you a lot of grief when you're 18 plus you'll get laid Quote

Thrik Posted August 15, 2006 Report Posted August 15, 2006 Exactly Sindwiller. I wish all Linux users could admit that as readily as you rather than giving me "lol windows" comments and stuff like that. Quote
dissonance Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 yeah man, at 12 you should be getting fucking shitfaced drunk every day and smoking three bowls of weed an hour with a vicodin chaser. oh, wait, you don't live in orange county, do you? nevermind, then. Quote
Sindwiller Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 Orange county *lol* Anyway, why are'nt you discussing? Am i so scary that you can't discuss? Wfr, Sindwiller Quote
JAL Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 I have never used Linux and never will. As long as I can use the software I want on Windows, I'm not touching Linux. I don't hate Linux, neither do I love Windows. Using Windows doesn't mean you love microsoft and hate all-things-linux. Quote
leileilol Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 using linux is great so we don't laugh at you for paying over $100 for an operating system with something linux (and its Xwindow guis) can already do! Quote
Minos Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 Who said I paid for my windows XP copy ? Quote
RD Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 Evrybody laughed at Bill Gates when he was 12. Quote
Thrik Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 Haha yes, it's wrong but most people you'll talk to don't pay for Windows. The majority of those that have it legally only do because it came free with their pre-built PC. But that aside, as I said earlier I'm prepared to pay that bit more for the best user experience possible, and not just the functionality. Until Linux can master both (which is going to require a lot of its user's mentalities changing) it's going to remain just how it is. A niche home OS. Quote

You didnt tried it, right? Also, not every Distribution is built for tweaking. Ubuntu is a 100% desktop distro and is very comfortable. Has the most best hardware recognition, most comfortable pre-configuration and configuration tools. And has also a kickass community. What you want else? Wfr, Sindwiller Quote
Schmung Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 Because Ubuntu is still a bitch to use and most of GUI config stuff doesn't bloody work properly. After arsing around with config files for hours I realised that the Linux communitys idea of usability was somewhat different to my own. Linux is not in any way a proper desktop OS at present and until someone creates a decent distro that has a decent standardised method for adjusting settings, installing software and organising information, it won't be. It still very much feels like something designed by coders, not something designed for users. And for gods sakes just that in your bloody sig instead of singing every post. Quote
