Minos Posted September 28, 2005 Report Posted September 28, 2005 god bless d3 only he could critique a dead persons music interests hahahaha Ferret: I heard nordic countries have the highest suicide rates in the world. It's said that they can't go out when it's snowing (99% of the time ) and have nothing better to do at home. Boredom seems to be enough reason to suicide, who knows Quote
ginsengavenger Posted September 28, 2005 Report Posted September 28, 2005 not to make light of the topic but i'm pretty sure all the women in alaska are always pregnant. Quote
user Posted September 28, 2005 Report Posted September 28, 2005 They were 14 and thought that "life is not worth living"? I just don't know what to say, life doesn't start before around 20 or something, they practically knew nothing about life. It's a waste. They should make the legal age of suicide 20 I suck at making jokes today Quote
Kosmo Posted September 29, 2005 Report Posted September 29, 2005 I flipped through the weekly WHO newsletter I get, and there was something about suicides there just a while ago. It might suprise you, but actually Easter Europe has highest suicide rate, and Latin America, Some Muslim countries and few of the Asian countries have lowest suicide rate. Now ofcourse we should take in consideration that it is 'rate' and not actual numbers, but it is just stupid to compare the suicide numbers of a country that has 120million (like Japan) to a country that has 5million (like Evil Empire of Finland). There are some "hot countries" that have high rate and increasing numbers over the past 50 years, and those are: most of the central european countries, Finland, Sweden, Russia, China, Japan, New Zealand, Australia and countries in caribbea. Jezpuh Posted September 29, 2005 Report Posted September 29, 2005 True, but I heard that a lot of people commit suicide in North Europe because the sun doesn't go down completely at certain times of the year. Because of the frustration brought with this they commint suicide. Also, I mean the most northern parts of Scandinavia. Quote
Evert Posted September 29, 2005 Report Posted September 29, 2005 Minos, not Sweden, Norway and Denmark, but Finland has (had?) a high suicide rate. Sweden used to have highe rate then what it is atm I'm fairly sure. Quote
Kosmo Posted September 29, 2005 Report Posted September 29, 2005 Yup, Finland has the highest suicide ratio of scandinavia, especially among yougn people. @jezpuh: Reasons might be many, and varied, but I don't think that in any stretch of imagination, the midnight sun has anything to do with it, on the contrary, many university studies show that people are more vigorous and happy during this perioid, and again, there are studies that show, many people are more depressed during the dark and cold winter. So if I had to bet such a morbid thing, I'd put my money on the dark and cold winter rather than the lushious summer that all scandinavians love so much. Quote
D3ads Posted September 29, 2005 Report Posted September 29, 2005 god bless d3 only he could critique a dead persons music interests I was criticising the newspaper for pigeonholing Goth as 'depressed teenagers who wear black and listen to heavy metal music', Goth culture has nothing to do with metal. Grin Posted September 29, 2005 Report Posted September 29, 2005 The Finnish version of suicide is much less emotional. It's more like drink a bottle or two of hard liquor, get a gun, say "ah fuck" and KABOSH! Btw, excellent movie about the subject: Quote
Kosmo Posted September 29, 2005 Report Posted September 29, 2005 Suicide club is pretty weird take on the subject, but non the less a view to a twisted mind of a Japanese movie maker Quote
Section_Ei8ht Posted September 29, 2005 Report Posted September 29, 2005 Gonna hafta agree with Mazy on this one. Quote

You think that snow and cold is a high factor when comes down to suecide? I say not. Some people, dosen't like the cold and winter, like me, but its a LONG step to suecide, and there's often more things behind it if someone kill themselves. I had a friend who hung him self, that is the only person I know, even far away, even heard of doing it. But he was tragic, his life sucked, no grades whatso ever, no real future, only watched movies all the time. It's just sad. I must add, that he killed himself in the middle of June, the funeral was two weeks later, ~30C hot. Not even close to the winter. Quote
