Skjalg Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 I dont think that would've been a problem since you can just easy-in and out of animations these days, with a little work they could've made it work. But I dont think this game is supposed to be played in 3rd person, not sure why they left it there, cool screenshots of swordfights maybe? Quote
Grinwhrl Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 Helps when sneaking and for roleplayers who want to see themselves once and a while. Quote
ctswin Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 so i finished the main quest. yeah. i was kinda hoping it would be a bit longer, still, i should have plenty of side quests to do. Quote
JamesL Posted March 29, 2006 Report Posted March 29, 2006 But I dont think this game is supposed to be played in 3rd person, not sure why they left it there, cool screenshots of swordfights maybe? I virtually never play it in first person, in fact I simply can't imagine the game as 1st person only, it would ruin it for me. re: rigs, I am running it on an AMD3700, 2x 512m Corsair XMS3200XL, 7800GT @ 1280x1024 with HDR and virtually everything maxed. It's mostly fine to play but outside, vs multiple opponents I am bottoming out at <10fps. That said I have not tried any of the optimisations that people have been posting up on Hard OCP or other similar sites. Not gonna try fiddling with it till I have finished it at least once. Quote
zpanzer Posted March 30, 2006 Author Report Posted March 30, 2006 just got my copy to xbox360, def. better then when i tried it on my PC gotta love all the side quests! Quote
zaphod Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 I've tried multiple times to get into this game, but I just cant : / I got to the part where you go through the portal and fight the annoying little demon dudes. It's pretty, but it runs like a beast on my 3 ghz 6800GT 2gig ram machine. The combat seems absolutely terrible, by the time I click the mouse, sort through the lag, and play through the slow ass swinging animation - I'm already trying to block. It feels like I'm trying to beat someone with a wooden parking block while wearing snowshoes and blocking with a bodyboard. (ie, it's fricken clunky) The run speed should be the walk speed and the run speed should be twice as fast. The lip synching is pretty lame, and the dialouge is plain and boring. but then some other dude I know starts going off about how they are totally addicted to it and I go crazy and try to keep playing feeling like I'm missing out on something but I can't figure out what it is!!! argh! Section_Ei8ht Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 I agree with Zaphod. Starting to wonder if it was worth the 50 bucks. Quote
Campaignjunkie Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 The Dark Brotherhood quests are fantastic. At least try them out (preferably on a stealthy character) before you shelve the game. There's definitely plenty of flaws (character animation is ugly, poor framerate, lots of NPC faces are ugly, etc.), so I won't try to defend it, but the quests and exploration are definitely the best elements. Just get on your horse and go riding into the forest - you'll probably stumble upon something interesting after a few minutes... Some shack out in the wilderness could be the trigger for a really entertaining quest. You might meet another adventurer and team up with him. You might encounter some crazy boss monsters and run for your life. If you're tempted to keep going through the main quest even though it's not very fun: don't. Seriously, just stop and do something else - go to the book store and read some books, investigate some ruins, join a guild! The main quest will still be there when you decide to return to it. Zaphod: Running speed depends on your attributes. Power up Speed and Athletics to get faster. Or get a horse. Quote
Squirrelly Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 After completing the Guild quests, the game sort of... slowed down. Really repetitive, and I just got bored with it. Sure glad I didn't blow $50 on it... Quote
Mazy Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 Zaphod, try and check out my comments on the first page of this thread, I was really frustrated when I began playing the game because I simply couldn't get into the world, and the fact that everybody else was praising it so much just made me really aggressive and angry. If I hadn't given it a second chance (and actually a third and fourth chance :G) I would never have gotten into the game. However once I got past the obvious flaws and annoyances of the game and began accepting it for what it was it really came through. Anyway, now that I've gotten through pretty much all the major quests (Main quest, plus all the guild quests except for the last ones in the Theives Guild) its starting to get very repetitive and dull. But given that my savegame clock says I've been playing the game for around 97 hours then I'd say thats a pretty good Fun:Money ratio. So yeah, I totally understand your frustration. Also regarding the PC version (I ended up playing the 360 version). The game ran fine with the details cranked up fairly high, but whenever I killed a character outside and the ragdoll physics were activated the game would go totally crazy with the framerate dropping to like 1-5fps. Really nasty shit :G Quote
ctswin Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 you can turn down settings you know so you don't get lag.. crazy idea i know but ¬¬ Quote

Hourences Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 You got to mod the game to keep it fun. Im level 45 and I played it for about 140 hours now. I pretty much got everything now, all quests and i explorer most of the map. Currently exploring the last few areas I missed previous time. The game became really reperative around level 35 because theres not much new going on + everything grows with you. At level 35 and the game's best weapons it still takes minutes to kill a stupid monster and since you face dozens of those monsters per area it all takes a real long time..so I modded it. My horse now runs a few times faster so it actualy became usefull. My walking speed is 4 times as high as is my jumping and I made myself a new weapon that does 6 times as much damage so my attack power is balanced out to my high level, morrowind style. Much more fun now Just roaming the lands for the sake of exploration, not caring about stupid monsters that are spawned everywhere anymore. Just like I played Morrowind. Edit: I forgot to say but the game is really made towards low level players. It seems to me they never bothered playtesting it at high level. I have a very high run and jump speed that I managed to get without cheating and I can regulary jump out of the level and fall in to the void around places. I can jump on top of a lot of walls and get to places I really shouldnt get to. Bad testing. I managed to jump over the imperial prison wall for example. Quote
von*ferret Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 I guess your character isn't white if he can jump that high JK Quote
JamesL Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 Likewise with the jumping. I have very high agility/speed/athletics stats and can break the game in a few places. Especially funny are the Oblivion sections. I can jump around most of the gate/lock/key sections and complete a gate to sigel stone in like 10-15 mins no worries. I do still love Oblivion but I don't think it's really as good as Morrowind was, I mean levitation! where is the damn levitation! Waa! Quote
