I wholly understand every point raised, but it's still impossible to fathom they got a permit for this in 1998

The road might have been built after the shooting range. That would explain the coincidental placement. Otherwise, why would you build a shooting range over a road. That's a weird flex.

Not a talk but a really great look at Disco Elysium, dialogue and skills in particular.

Great for UI designers, but also game and narrative designers I guess.

Pity that they haven’t thought enough about accessibility and responsiveness of the interface, I also watched a video about the Final Cut on console and the text is not big enough/UI not adjustable enough.

Now I'm feeling like contacting her and showing my wiki to her. She is right, bad teachers are hindering everyone's ability to learn math. The example she gave with the sequence of squares. So many different ways to view it. Yet, if you take an IQ test, just one of those forms is accepted. I lost count of how many times my peers were complaining about exams that were at a level of difficulty that wasn't expected. That's one of the points that I made in my wiki, I writing it to learn, not to focus on scoring high on exams.

Not sure this is worth sharing but it really got into my ear just how bizarre and poorly framed the whole narrative is, it's basically what's-his-name's ( not being rude I legit forgot and can't find the threads ( p sure they got deleted anyway )) posts except a video with ~5m views and seemingly being received with unanimous praise

Spoiler

I'm only aware of roblox by name & vaguely through memes besides this, so I guess keep that in mind but, to summarize;

  • repeatedly and insistently compares roblox's user-generated-content-marketplace to steam's main storefront & does not mention the workshop one singular time
  • does not expound youtube's (or comparable platforms') similar issues despite his interviewees referencing them at least twice
  • has somehow convinced himself that roblox has a responsibility in moderating discord and other entirely separate platforms as long as the game is being discussed there
  • purports that the trading of rare items is "literally the stock market" and should be illegal for minors

  • bonus point: shows a counterfeit pl_badwater/tf2 and de_lake within the first 3 minutes of his video but never discusses intellectual property infringement as a part of monetized user-generated content ( does discuss copycats within the ecosystem, fleetingly )

I'm not saying he's wrong all around, but it certainly reeks of "people will not dissect your arguments as long as you voice them eloquently and claim to be fighting a just cause"

I was watching this and what he says can clearly be applied to life itself. He mentions John Wooden, New Zealand's All blacks, US Navy Seals, Ego is the enemy, Only the paranoid survive (he mentions that all the players from the national volleyball team nicknamed him a Psychopath), Tom Bradley, Simon Sinek, Peter Drucker.

He talks a lot about taking responsability and not blaming the world, the rules, the adversaries or even God. No, learn from mistakes.

A powerful quote that he says is "There is only on way to never lose and that way is to never play in the first place". He mentioned this https://www.thisiswhywestand.net/single-post/2018/08/15/never-ever-ring-the-bell-life-lessons-from-a-navy-seal It made me think back on how many bells I have ringed in the past.

So many things intersect with what I read about narcissism and mental health in general. It made me see that the way I'm trying to get into the industry is wrong. I have to change my perspective. He mentions that the country lacks a strong leader and that really applies to many many countries all over the world. If the country's leader is giving bad examples what are you going to expect from the average person? More often than not you need to do the right thing and right thing is not comfortable or pleasant. Here is where I'm going wrong: I'm avoiding what is right because it's uncomfortable or unpleasant.

Sports in general are great in teaching life long lessons.

I think her whole talk can be summarized in "Is it worth it? What do you have to sacrifice or abandon to win? Is it going to be worth the cost?"

    • [CS:GO] Shore
One of the projects I worked on after I made de_austria.

Yeah, I know the timing is really bad (CS2!), but can't change it... 🙁

In general a lot went wrong during this project. Had a lot of problems with the layout, but I think I found a good compromise in the end. Also learned many new things. Maybe I would even be ready to create a really good map now after all, but I think that it's gonna be the final one. I really like making maps, but it has become too time consuming over the years for just being a hobby. Unfortunately I never managed to get a job in the games industry. So that's it. I hope it's a worthy ending of 20 years of making maps for me. 🙂

Shore is a bomb defusal map for CS:GO that takes place on Lofoten Islands, Norway. (Also have a Hostage version of this that works well imo)

I took some inspiration from this place in Norway:
