bruja Posted October 1, 2023 Report Posted October 1, 2023 This is incredibly cruel, how Valve literally ruined mapping for thousands of mappers, who dont even have some potato computer, they just don't have fancy RTX-feature. You have already done lightmap feature without RTX, in Half-Life Alyx Workshop Tools, then why you ruined it in CS2 Workshop Tools!? I mean, you could just literally leave two options for light compiling, one for non-RTX cards, with lower light quality, and one for RTX-cards, with higher light quality. Some feature like "Fast/Full Compile" that you already have. I bet, many CS:GO mappers now have this problem too, they just can't continue make their own maps, because they don't have RTX-card. Please, FIX IT!!! Quote
Serialmapper Posted January 25, 2024 Report Posted January 25, 2024 Lo siento, pero no se puede. Hay que comprar rtx. No hay otra opción. Quote
Thrik Posted March 3, 2024 Report Posted March 3, 2024 It does feel sad as it puts a barrier to entry in place which is the last thing needed in a hobby that already few developers bother to support nowadays, but I think within a year or few almost everyone will have some form of RT-capable card so it’ll cease to be an issue. Might as well just jump in now, an entry level RTX can be had for quite cheap on eBay. I sold my 2070s not long ago and somebody got a great deal on that. Quote
S.martin Posted March 12, 2024 Report Posted March 12, 2024 (edited) Apparently, there is a workaround via cmd (I haven't tried it myself yet) Edited March 12, 2024 by S.martin Deh0lise 1 Quote
Human Doctor Posted March 12, 2024 Report Posted March 12, 2024 (edited) The Valve lightmapper takes decades to bake anyway. I don't know how you expect to be able to make anything remotely good looking without an RTX card. Get another hobby. Try Roblox. Roblox has good mapping tools. Or get a dog or something. Deh0lise Posted March 18, 2024 Report Posted March 18, 2024 I have the same issue as the OP, old PC (GTX970, i7-4790K) and changing it would be only because of mapping, not for games. A new 4060 would be enough and fast compillng? (with bottleneck on PCIE 3), or it would take ages to compile? Quote

You can see what rig have the best results in terms of compile times. I bet it can come in handy when someone is planning to upgrade their PC https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1PPAsvUC0jT7QnkuE-7cYCD7LG87mVdhgctD1GC_lk7I/edit#gid=1995078957 Edude, Deh0lise and leplubodeslapin 2 1 Quote
Serialmapper Posted March 22, 2024 Report Posted March 22, 2024 (edited) @Deh0lise i have a 4060 and it does not take ages. For example my last map which is quite complex, was compiled in 1 hour and 55 minutes at a lightmap resolution of 4096 (final quality settings). The majority of the compile it is done by the GPU. Also i have a i7 7820x. Edited March 22, 2024 by Serialmapper Deh0lise 1 Quote
Deh0lise Posted March 23, 2024 Report Posted March 23, 2024 Thanks @Lizard!, difference among the ones I was looking for is narrow, a 4060 ti seems good enough. That's a good reference @Serialmapper, thank you, I can wait 2h. I just don't want to leave it at night to compile (like in old css days). Quote
Lizard Posted March 23, 2024 Report Posted March 23, 2024 @Deh0lise no problem mate! Planning to port de_rails or working on something totally new? Quote
Deh0lise Posted March 25, 2024 Report Posted March 25, 2024 Something new and a fast(I hoped) port of rails with minor changes. Facing more challenges than expected though. Quote
