Dennispls Posted September 22, 2014 Report Posted September 22, 2014 Hey guys, It has been a while since I posted here. Lately I have been trying to get some decent handpainted textures. Below is what I've got so far. Crits are welcome. I do not yet know how this scene will work out but I'll add as I go. kikette, Squad, AyzOn and 14 others 17 Quote
TheGuma Posted September 22, 2014 Report Posted September 22, 2014 Looks amazing! Kind of TF2-Ish, too. Quote
Dennispls Posted September 23, 2014 Author Report Posted September 23, 2014 Cheers TheGuma! Was going for a WoW / Allods kind of look. Any tips on how to improve? Quote
kikette Posted September 23, 2014 Report Posted September 23, 2014 (edited) Looks very nice but maybe you should look for more colors to improve your contrast. Actually, the only way to guess your material is by looking at the yellow color and the object shape. Maybe you should improve the way you work your surfaces by using sharper brushs ? Dennispls Posted September 23, 2014 Author Report Posted September 23, 2014 (edited) Thanks Kikette, Yeah I could definately work on my brushes. Right now I use a standard brush with pen pressure. I should read up on what setting does what. I will also work on some more contrast in terms of color. I tend to go for the same color but a bit darker. Feel free to do paintovers guys. Dennispls Posted September 24, 2014 Author Report Posted September 24, 2014 Made some changes to the palm tree bark. Not sure if this is an improvement or not. Quote
tomm Posted September 25, 2014 Report Posted September 25, 2014 not an improvement imo, you made the tiling more obvious, take a step back Quote
Dennispls Posted October 11, 2014 Author Report Posted October 11, 2014 (edited) Been very busy with work and other stuff but I have tried something else. tomm Posted October 12, 2014 Report Posted October 12, 2014 texture quality is good, it's just the palm fronds look slanted to me, dunno what reference you're using but it looks more like a pile of rocks on both textures. Quote
Dennispls Posted October 12, 2014 Author Report Posted October 12, 2014 Hey Tomm, This is my reference: Quote
tomm Posted October 12, 2014 Report Posted October 12, 2014 it might be the color, maybe give your texture a more natural woody color just like the one in the reference? Quote
Dennispls Posted October 12, 2014 Author Report Posted October 12, 2014 Yea perhaps you're right. I'll see what I can do Quote

I actually thought it was a stone pillar. Yeah I have been hearing this alot and perhaps it is because i've done a lot of stone tests before. It might be the deep cuts and the highlights that make it look more like stone. I am still reworking this. I'll post some progress tonight. Cheers for the comments sofar! Quote
