Albatros Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 Hey, as shown in the WIP thread, I'm working on a single player mod on my weekends whereas HaJ and RnL get my full attention from monday to friday. So... yeah, the SP mod will be called "Zeitgeist", which means "spirit of the age", and there will be a MP-mode that more or less shifts the player through three historical periods. Kind of . I'll make an own thread on the Mod itself to show progress on all the maps of it parallely - this one only serves to present the most complete one of them so you get a feeling for what the heck I'm talking about ;p. Other than Stuttgart, the Zeitgeist locations will include London, Vienna, Prague, New York, Moscow and - maybe - Berlin. The story takes place in an alternative line of time; some events that happened in reality between 1912 and 1920 happened differently or just didn't happen at all, and the consequences resulted in a faster technological development in some ways, and a very much different political situation in europe and the rest of the world. The aim of the mod is to take a contemporary and complex story like Michael Clayton or the Bourne Trilogy, combine it with the scenery of the 1930s/40s and add a minimal feeling of James Bond to the mixture. The result should be as professional as can be to make the environment as credible as possible. I'm sure it can work, but it means a hell of a lot of work, so I suppose I'll need much professional help creating all the content, coding and scripting needed to make this a success, and maybe even sponsors and a budget. I'll open a post in the recruitment forums soon with more detail on content & story. Cheers, Albatros P.S.: sorry for posting this almost unchanged in some other forums - it's too much to type it over and over again. Quote
I3yG-MaK Posted October 9, 2008 Report Posted October 9, 2008 Try to turn the light a little more white or make a sky like sunrise ( i mean orange/red sky ) and add some ambient oclussion effect to your textures, and you have a deal. The car loocs like plastic one, try to fake selfshadow and oclusion on the texture, and lets see what happens. Nice job anyway Quote
D3ads Posted October 9, 2008 Report Posted October 9, 2008 Sounds good to me, really looking forward to seeing how this progresses! Quote
Thrik Posted October 10, 2008 Report Posted October 10, 2008 Even more fantastic than it looked in the WIP thread. Lighting is much better now, too. Quote
Warby Posted October 10, 2008 Report Posted October 10, 2008 didnt you show pics of this before with a morree desaturated more stylized colro schmee i remember to havel iekd it better that way :/ geometry seams good also very unusual setting for a ww2 map that defnitly needs to be applauded nitpicking: that schötte logo lacks shading to make it feel 3d if its completely self illuminated make it so strong that it starts blooming other wise it wont READ as an emissiv object Quote
Albatros Posted October 10, 2008 Author Report Posted October 10, 2008 Hey , thanks for your feedback everybody. @I3yG MaK: Working on those skins - need much redoing indeed! @Warby: didnt you show pics of this before with a morree desaturated more stylized colro schmee i remember to havel iekd it better that way :/ Yep I did, and - honestly - I also liked the other colour scheme much better. I'm trying to bring it back, but it's not as easy as I thought... much tweaking necessary . geometry seams good also very unusual setting for a ww2 map that defnitly needs to be applauded Ty! I tried to avoid the typical ww2-factors to portrait the period without all the clichés. nitpicking: that schötte logo lacks shading to make it feel 3d if its completely self illuminated make it so strong that it starts blooming other wise it wont READ as an emissiv object Very good idea, and I'd love to get that working. Tried for a couple of hours now, but I can't seem to get a glowing model working. Could you probably point me into the right direction there? Thanks a lot again guys! Quote
Albatros Posted October 11, 2008 Author Report Posted October 11, 2008 Hey again, update on lighting and glow effects as well as a new skin and heavy model changes for one of the models. Can only imagine how the black 1938 Volkswagen I'm working on will fit in there . Thanks for the advice, Warby . This is the best I could come up with yet and it needs a whole lot of improvement, no doubt, but the desaturated lighting and the glows make it much better already now. I only implemented them for the SCHÖTTE, Lichtspielhaus and Paul Leicht letters and they need much tweaking, but yeah.. feels much cooler already. Quote
Jenn0_Bing Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 There is a real cinematic quality to this, sort of like a matte painting. Stunning stuff, love the style. Quote
JeanPaul Posted October 12, 2008 Report Posted October 12, 2008 Yeah definitely, it looks pretty cool But this building is way out of place (center left) http://www.albatros44.de/stuttgart/stg1011g.jpg Its clean and looks like a parking garage, it doesnt fit at all Quote
Albatros Posted October 12, 2008 Author Report Posted October 12, 2008 Stood there in 1928, JeanPaul. http://www.uni-stuttgart.de/uni-kurier/ ... /sl20a.gif http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... t-1930.jpg It only has the rough shape laid out so far, but I'll do the insides as well. That's one of the reasons I wanted to do this scenario - people usually underestimate the progress architecture and art made in the years between the wars. New screenshots tomorrow - or so I hope . Cheers, Albatros Quote
Furyo Posted October 12, 2008 Report Posted October 12, 2008 This is probably your work I like the most. For some reason it really makes me think of an alternate reality. I'm sure you're actually depicting a german city as it really was, except I can't help but think of a more sci-fi setting at the same time. Really original either way, and other than the previous concerns mentioned above the only other spot where something felt odd was in the right bottom part of the 4th screen, where that stock model stands out. The wood is probably too clean compared to the rest of the architecture Quote
Ginger Lord Posted October 12, 2008 Report Posted October 12, 2008 Looking good, a decent 3D skybox will make it awesome®. Quote
AlexM Posted October 12, 2008 Report Posted October 12, 2008 This map really does have an unmistakable style. Great work Quote
RA7 Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 Damn the new pics look amazing.... Will post them asap. Quote
