st0lve Posted March 5, 2007 Report Posted March 5, 2007 Probably won't be better than Final Liberation.. And how do they split up the races? The cities will be the most exciting things, to see what they'll do about Hives and such. Quote
Taylor Posted March 5, 2007 Report Posted March 5, 2007 Interviews about franchise and intellectual property with nothing about the actual game aren’t quite enough to convince me just yet,, but I’ll be keeping an eye open. But despite what they say with WoW out there and Warhammer Online coming out there, and with Sci-Fi not selling anywhere near as well as fantasy, they certainly are going to have to deliver something special. KoKo5oVaR Posted March 5, 2007 Report Posted March 5, 2007 That'll be my first mmo. Be carefull, i've lost 45 euros on WoW before figuring out only 2 weeks after that this game was pure crap And for the most geek of us, i'm sure you won't have any chicks ingame Or you know, girls in pink power armors Quote
ShaDoW Posted March 5, 2007 Report Posted March 5, 2007 Graphics wise the game equals with WoW. The only thing that puts me off is that Blizzard has (in my opinion) a whole lot more experience with these sort of games. Which leaves me with that "I'll try it out but I don't think it will be that big of a deal" feeling. And frankly being an avid MMO player, I haven't seen many MMO games that have gone to beta or released since WoW came out that has the same level of quality and vastness as WoW (the new LoTR MMO for example, which copied a lot from WoW but still fails to deliver). Might seem like a little biased post, but what can you expect. WoW owns the MMO market. And yeah, the article does say very little about the game itself. Quote
Bluestrike Posted March 7, 2007 Report Posted March 7, 2007 There are screenshots from WH40k already? Anyway I'm looking forward to W.A.R. (Warhammer online) because Mythic is doing it. I loved the DAOC RVR (pvp) and they have the expirience to make it better. Tried the WOW beta but it was not my kind of game and it brought nothing new anyway. I think WOW's sucess has more to do with th Warcraft and Blizzard name then being a good MMO, wich is fine since it brought 'fresh meat' to the market Quote

I think what is real sad is people do not get the wow model... We do not do anything special or anything new really. We just designed our game to be simple for everyone and that it can run to some extent on anything. I think it was at last years GDC, Rob Pardo gave a great talk on how we designed WoW and it took 10 years of design before we thought we had the right combination and I think thats one of the big things about many of the current MMO's they are just not willing to throw out what does not work as they have invested a good amount of time already in it. Blizzard has always had a quality art pipeline and you combine this with a good design team; that saw the stuff that worked and made it even easier, and you now have one of the most successful games of all time. I am sure there is a wow killer lurking somewhere off in the distance but when it does come to light I think people will be surpised at how simple the game really is. Quote
KungFuSquirrel Posted March 7, 2007 Report Posted March 7, 2007 There are screenshots from WH40k already? No, there aren't. Probably a reference to the EA Mythic one, which from a technical standpoint is 'better' with higher poly count and texture resolution (and better/more consistent art direction and style than most), but I'd still rate WoW higher as far as overall direction and style. Couple guys I knew from Raven are likely working on this, so it'll at the very least have some kick-ass artwork. Quote
Taylor Posted March 7, 2007 Report Posted March 7, 2007 Wacko beat me, but I typed this up and didn’t want to post it from work. I hope WAR does well because if it doesn’t Mythic are going to be in trouble with DAoC subscriptions sliding. But I heavily disagree: I doubt the words Blizzard and Warcraft are enough alone to generate eight million simultaneous subscribers and hold them! That is an almost unimaginable amount of players. WoW is successful because they clearly sat down and stripped away everything from the MMORPG genre that was making it inaccessible to casual gamers (which are who those subscribers are): the catass raids, the punishing mechanics, the level grinds, the reputation grinds, the grind grinds, the lack of solo – and did it right. You can see they did this again with the expansion with reputations, professions, raid sizes and PvP system. It’s such an obvious approach you can’t really see why people kept pumping out MMORPG’s that almost revelled in their hardcore only gameplay. It’s still far from perfect and I’m sure I could rant to nobody about certain things, but that’s part and parcel of that type of game. Quote
