Haven't played any Metal Gear game so far (I know, I know... ) Would you guys recommend having a look at this one? Or wouldn't I be able to enjoy it not knowing the previous parts.
I just made this example coming from an art background myself. Same applies for engineering... look at what is needed for a certain job and see if you can already do it or learn it quickly. Just have a look at a typical career page on any game dev studio. Look at their Engineering job descriptions and the corresponding requirements.
Look at which roles exist in a typical games production. 3D Art, Environment Art, Concept Art, Technical Design, Technical Art. (for example) Learn what it takes to work in these roles, apply and get a job. That's all there is to it.

Can't say anything against that, it's an understandable decision.
However, my inner graphics whore is slightly disappointed :-P
Still looks nice tho!
