Sprony Posted December 18, 2014 Author Report Posted December 18, 2014 I use GLQuake but Nehahra has it's own engine so that doesn't help. There's a Darkplaces version but it looks really ugly when you turn the gamma up :/ Try Quakespam, never had any problems and it will surely run it. Quote
Sprony Posted April 12, 2015 Author Report Posted April 12, 2015 Map Jam 5: The Conquer Map Jam has been released. Skacky already teased us a bit in the WIP thread so be sure to check it out. Here are all the entries. Download link here and discussion here. Quote
Sprony Posted June 24, 2016 Author Report Posted June 24, 2016 Believe it or not, Machinegames made a Quake episode. It's up on Quaddicted and called Dimensions of the Past (DOPA). It starts like this Quote
DrywallDreams Posted June 25, 2016 Report Posted June 25, 2016 one thing super cool about DOPA is that it actually runs a-okay in original quake! Sprony 1 Quote
blackdog Posted June 25, 2016 Report Posted June 25, 2016 I feel like going backwards, install Trenchbtoom and start my level design from scratch with a Q1 map and then progress with the other engines… Sprony 1 Quote
Jetsetlemming Posted June 25, 2016 Report Posted June 25, 2016 Had a lot of fun with DOPA. Even found the Dopefish! The (very easy to find) secret level was by far the best in the pack, imo Sprony 1 Quote
blackdog Posted July 1, 2016 Report Posted July 1, 2016 Just saw that old quake is on sale on steam, think I'll get it cos I only borrowed the CD at the time Quote
blackdog Posted July 2, 2016 Report Posted July 2, 2016 Bought Q1 + Q2. What can I install to "beautify" them? Run Q2 a few minutes and it doesn't even support fullHD. I had the feeling the gun was also shooting slightly to the left of the crosshair. I know that Q1 is still very strong and when people post content here looks good, so I imagine there's something on top of the base game. I remember reading in the past about normal mapping support (or along the lines) but never needed to look into the matter further. Help? Quote

I remember reading in the past about normal mapping support (or along the lines) but never needed to look into the matter further. Help? For Quake 1, you'll want to install Quakespasm, which adds larger map and skybox support without the ugly "HD XXXTREME TEXTURE PACK" stuff (and if want to go real nuts, check out Super 8's qbism engine, which extends Quake's original software renderer to support a lot of Quakespasm's upgrades!) For Quake 2, I'm not entirely sure what to use. It looks like the unofficial 3.24 patch might be a good place to look for some good quality of life improvements while keeping faithful to the original. Quote
blackdog Posted July 2, 2016 Report Posted July 2, 2016 Does all this easily go on top of the Steam version? Quote
DrywallDreams Posted July 3, 2016 Report Posted July 3, 2016 Kind of. Quakespasm won't launch from steam unless you add it as a non-steam app, and I'm guessing Q2 3.24 is the same way. Quote

It looks like the unofficial 3.24 patch might be a good place to look for some good quality of life improvements while keeping faithful to the original. Unofficial 3.24 and DirectQ II are the only real Q2 source ports. the rest are just buggy particle system exercises that don't fix stuff, force changes to q2's aesthetic because programmers, or 'modern' ports that regress everything. DISCLAIMER: Wrote a software rendered port myself, . and despite what it does, I don't recommend it. It would be nice if some of its stuff got ported to super8 though, or whatever DrywallDreams is doing Edited October 26, 2016 by leileilol Quote
