Wunderboy Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 Oh herrow. Just a head's up to let folks now I finally finished the 3DS Max 9/2008/2009 SMD importer plug-in that I seem to of been working on forever. I made an alpha release a while ago but this is the first one-point-oh release with some bug fixes and support for importing animations. Major plus points over the existing MaxScript importer is that it imports the model as a continuous mesh so it doesn't require re-welding and smoothing. That said, it's not able to recreate smoothing groups but uses vertex smoothing. More details on that on my website. Theres also some nice features like making orphan bones dummies and "standing up" models originally from Maya. Feedback/bug reports/suggestions welcome. 3DS Max 9/2008/2009 SMD Importer 32/64-bit Quote
m8nkey Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 Love your work Wunderboy, I want to remove the floating turd from the stock hl2 toilet model so every toilet in my map isn't full of turd. I'll let you know if I run into any drama Quote
Spellbinder Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 Awsome Wunderboy! I don't use either 3dsmax or hammer but i just love creative people. Kudos to you all! Good game! Quote
robert.briscoe Posted November 29, 2008 Report Posted November 29, 2008 Thanks so much for this mate! Especially for making 64bit versions also!! I just wish there was a 64bit Photoshop VTF plugin to make my Source tools complete! Quote

aaron_da_killa Posted November 29, 2008 Report Posted November 29, 2008 Whoa, perfect timing. You've set me up for source modeling with a 3DS Max importer/exporter plugin just as I am about to start modeling in the coming month(s). Thanks . Quote
Wunderboy Posted December 1, 2008 Author Report Posted December 1, 2008 I just wish there was a 64bit Photoshop VTF plugin to make my Source tools complete! Crap. I knew I forgot something. I did do one but forgot to release it. The VTF plug-in is a pain to keep up-to-date for Max versions 6,7,8 so I'd kind of forgotten it. I'll try and update it over Xmas and release the VTA exporter I wrote as well. Quote
robert.briscoe Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 You'll make my xmas if you do! Awesome work mate Quote
Em' Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 Strange. I have 3dsmax 2009 installed. And I also have the SMD exporter-importer. And this since some 6 months or more. Whereas ! Good job ! EDIT / I just read... It's an "add-on" ^^ Quote
ambeerli Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 How do you export a model from google sketchup to 3ds Max? Seldoon182 Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 Wrong thread Ambeerli. Those plug-ins are dedicated to VALVe's Source engine. Also the .smd extension is a exported model file format before the model's compilation. Don't know know much more about how making custom assets for Battlefields games. Start a new thread would be advised! [EDIT]: Welcome on board! Quote
