knj Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 Hi guys, i wanted to show you a project, made by my friends, i was a part of it (graphics) but when i've started to have less time (job ect) i have quit, but this is turning real good, this is a first game for those guys. At first it was a twisted strony of Red Hood, inspired by Sanitarium, Mc'gees Alice, Braid. It changed a lil in time, but i think it is worth to see, and i would love to hear your feedback, People ask often about the music - it's custom made, graphics, and the USP is that you can switch between 2 worlds, and you have different world view in these two worlds oh and it is a heavy WIP Quote
knj Posted January 13, 2012 Author Report Posted January 13, 2012 Notin guys ? give them smth it's not a commercial product, rather students fun project . . . Quote
FrieChamp Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 - Red Riding Hood in a gloomy city-I like that setting! - The music does sound good! - Polish text makes me a sad panda because I don't understand it - The main mechanic doesn't quite impress me. More clever puzzles might win me over, but from what I can see, it seems like it will get dull pretty fast. Quote
knj Posted January 13, 2012 Author Report Posted January 13, 2012 The polish text is bla bla bla i must save her, bla bla bla he killed them bla bla i don't even know the story a this point, but it is not the Red Ridding hood story, just some elements teared from it as for the mechanics and game pace, they know it and are working on it, but thank you for the comment Quote
PogoP Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 Personally, I think there needs to be more of a difference between the 2 worlds... It's almost like you are simply changing the time of day at the moment. Would be cool if one was really colourful and nice, and the other was a really gloomy, industrial-like setting. Quote
Thrik Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 That's a good point, and I noticed that too. When I watched the video I looked away for a moment and didn't even realise the world had changed, as they do look very similar. At the moment if you did a blind test (ie: take screenshots of random parts of each world and identify which is which) people would probably find it difficult to say which world is which. I can see one world is a little more colourful than the other, but I think the effect is too muted and while subtlety can be wonderful it's a bit excessive in this case. Ideally the other world should contract much more IMO, to the point where one genuinely feels colourful and lovely while the other is as moody and dark as it is. Music is great, and while I'm not completely sold on the mechanics being that fun I realise it's only a short glimpse and also adventure/puzzle games often look boring when watched (humour and shock is a good way of offsetting this). bokeh Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 I like your artwork, & I think you should leave the Polish text untranslated. The gameplay & affordances should speak for themselves plus it's more exotic without localization, like some baffling Czech animation you catch on tv late at night. For contrast in the world switching, there needs to be a substantial mechanical difference. My suggestion would be that the gloomy world is the depressive-realist view of your downtrodden protagonist, & the other world is her escapist fantasy where she's a wall-jumping parkour ninja: 1984 meets Mirror's Edge (which I suppose would be a bit like Brazil, Terry Gilliam's take on Orwell's nightmare). In any case, my main suggestion is make it faster & jumpier Quote
knj Posted January 13, 2012 Author Report Posted January 13, 2012 bokeh, this isn't my artwork thank you guys for great feedback Quote

I'd rather understand the backstory and not feel like I could be missing some important hint but each to their own. I agree that the visual difference between the two dimensions needs to be more obvious. Quote
