    GTA V

Los Angeles makes a lot of sense for the setting, I expect they're are going to play on the state of the world economy a lot, and there's plenty of upper-class lower-class divide about in it. I expect the guy you're playing gets forced back into a life of crime after he loses his house to foreclosure/ business goes down the pan, or something of that sort. Just in that trailer there's a shot of a foreclosed house going up for sale, as well as a slum of non-hobo-like people living out of tents with household possessions surrounding them. I must admit, I keep coming back to that trailer, and it's brining me round. Beginning to get a real craving for more of the GTA action .

    GTA V

Looks like the lighting has improved a great deal, and seems to be bigger crowds of people on screen. It looks cool, I'll probably buy it, but it's not exactly as exciting as GTAIV was for me at the moment.
  3. Just read through the first two, very enjoyable, I look forward to the other parts now.
  4. Oh shit, how did I forget 2142! I loved that games themes, totally epic tracks in that game.

    DOTA 2

steam://takesurvey/1/ Edit: I had to shut steam down and start is using the link for it to work.
  6. Trying to organise that over in-game chat is next to impossible though, and the commo-rose is hardly fit-for-purpose at the moment. Though as far as I'm aware there is an update in the works aimed at improving the commands available in the rose. Player skill isn't something that bothers me, it's when you're lumped with someone who just isn't interested in playing as a team, and they're your squad leader.
  7. I stumbled across this the other day. Really love the presentation,It's great to have so much freedom over seeing what you're getting before you purchase. Also the free samples are better resolution than the free samples were on cgtextures, at least what I've browsed so far is.
  8. I'm going to weigh in and agree here too. While I am partial to the techno-glitch-wub-wub of BF3, musically I much prefer BF2's rendition. Me and my mates have been playing a fair amount of this over the last few days. Really enjoying it overall. The only thing that really, really irks me is the limited number of squads, and how it auto forces people into them when they join. Let me create my own squad, and don't automatically fill it with noobs who won't team play, please.

    DOTA 2

Well that was confusing at best. Why couldn't they just have a "I dun no nuttin" tick box at the top.
  10. It's got to be one of the most interesting dock inspired levels I've ever seen. Normally people settle for a large flat expanse of concrete scattered with containers and cranes and call it done. A big improvement over the original too.
  11. Thanks for the comments. I've been wrestling with the lighting for a while, it started off darker but the textures were also brighter so it doesn't look like it's changed much from update to update. What do you think of this? Hopefully it's got that night time feeling. I would probably use this (or similar) for all of my still and maybe fall back on the original sunset-like lighting for the turntable which I think needs to be brighter to balance out the movement. Doing it in a games engine is certainly an option, and I hope to eventually do a complete environment in this style in the near future. But I'd need to really get to grips with one to do it justice (Source won't cut the mustard here), I'm only loosely acquainted with UDK and I think Cryengine 3 would be best for the foliage, right now I want something quick and effective for my Portfolio while I apply for jobs.
  12. It seems I just can't put this thing down. I'm having trouble deciding when to call it done, I must be close now . I've addressed more of the points people gave me. Things like the back of the scene out-doing the front, and I gave those nasty seams around the grass some extra attention, thanks for pushing me to try those again . That random wheel also makes sense now, in the cart it was always destined to be a part of. The blue in the fence was to make it look harder, not the other way around. Everything else is warm and organic so I thought a cool blue would work for the metal. I've tried to keep pixel density as even as possible, and if I apply checker textures it's fairly close. As for Fresnel in the specular, I have got it to some degree on most of the pieces, I think it's one of those things that shows up better in motion.
  13. Oh hai! I remember watching the Robot Hunters Lodge come together over at Polycount. Love all the movement in that video.
  14. That's awesome. Looks like a lot of fun too, might have to give it a go myself sometime soon.
  15. So here is a big update! I spent the last week working like mad on all the new foliage pieces I’ve added. The largest part of the work is behind the railings, but I have also done a lot to the front area too. Nearly every asset has got another pass of love. Most of this work was done to bring a greater sense of unity to my colour pallet. Gonna call this done, as now I feel I need to move on to another project for a bit. That is unless anyone has any more awesome advice, otherwise I'll sort this into my portfolio soon. Thanks for the comments again guys, much appreciated. I hope I addressed your colour concerns too Koko, it certainly made an improvement to my eyes. As before, some high-res shots (clicky).
  16. The Battlefield theme melody is back! At last! Oh, and the rest of the trailer is nice too I guess .
  17. Here we go, I will be watching this one with great interest. I particularly like all those chips and weathering on those concrete props. Out of interest how high is the triangle count on those pieces? EDIT: I just spotted it on that pavement tile, awesome. It looked much higher than that to me, good normal map .
  18. sure you are, the game and it's marketing are symbiotic. You couldn't mention the marketing stunt if the game it's attached to didn't exist, what's the point of marketing nothing. This marketing stunt has appeared in a number of places, and every one of those places cant help but draw attention to the game itself. I can't imagine they'd ever expect to make 10million sales (hence the Charity donation), and neither can any other place that is jumping on the story to also say "they aren't going to do it." The by-product of all this attention to their 1$ sale is they now have more places with the games title and trailer spread around the internet than they could have ever afforded to do with standard advertising. I'm pretty sure they won't make 10million 1$ sales, but they will make more standard sales than they may have otherwise. EDIT: Also to clarify, when i say "talking about the game" I'm not talking about gameplay, design etc. But purely as a product for sale.
  19. They're thinking they'll make more money selling the game at full price, and that the 10mill marketing move is getting people talking about the game just like this thread.
  20. I've been working on the improvements. Just finished a few bits of dead wood to incorporate into the foresty space I have planned for behind the railing. Gonna feature mushrooms and bracken and the likes when I'm done with it. I like the idea of showing something buried under the ground at the back, may have to do something akin to all those cartoon sequences that travel down through the earth.

    Syndicate

So that's what Deus Ex would have been like with more than yellow . This is looking like a buy for sure, I like the environment art, it does seem a little hectic in places though. The HUD taking up the whole bottom half of the screen would also get frustrating I'm sure.
  22. I like that, and I was very impressed with that small test piece you did. Would be awesome to see it expanded on.
  23. Well yeah, kinda. There is a huge fire on their side of the border but it's outside the playable area, except for jets.
  24. If you dig around people do release the odd bit here and there. Jordan Walker recently released his Bathhouse Scene entry to the Polycount BRAWL contest, your friend can get it here
  25. Thanks for the comments guys. Mushrooms are a great idea, and an obvious choice too . I'll find some other bits to help make the back side a little more interesting for sure.
