  1. Refined the background
  2. Looking good Quakis. Did you flip all the geometry vertically for the reflective floor? Like e-freak suggested in his painover, I think the walls would look good if they were split vertically and another texture introduced.
  3. Thanks guys. I tried WeGame but found the quality and performance were terrible. I'm running an older build of Fraps that works fine and does everything I want. Performance and video quality are great.
  4. Just wondering if anyone can recommend some decent, free, software for capturing ingame video? I've tried Fraps but it just crashes on startup.
  5. I've had a similar problem. In my case the env_fog_controller had different fog start/end values to the sky_camera which resulted in terrible light patches.
  6. Interesting idea and the fact you chose a gay protagonist. Can't say I can think of a single game off the top of my head with a gay character. Males in anime and games in that style are often androgynous or feminine in appearance but I don't think they're gay. I find it funny how feminine some of the characters in fighting games like the KOF series look.
  7. thanks for the info guys. I can access Nem's site again now so not sure if the problem was his end or mine. I find it a pretty useful little app for streamlining workflow so I'm just running both versions of photoshop for the time being.
  8. I've just updated my system and now I'm running 64bit vista. I went to checkout Nem's site and download the latest version of his VTF plugin for photoshop but his site seams to be down. Can anyone here confirm there's a version compatible with Photoshop CS4 x64? I haven't managed to find one elsewhere.
  9. Quality release Meo. The map has a nice grungy look, appropriate to the theme and looks like it would be well suited to smaller games. Only thing I didn't like ingame was the large, ovular, window glowsprites.
  10. I haven't looked into it but I wouldn't be surprised if it was possible in TF2. Gary's Mod supports dof ingame. It uses a simple interface to select the focal point distance.
  11. Thanks Punky RA7: Glad you approve mate. I'm working on a LanmaniaX billboard and another, more obscure reference too (you'll know it when you see it ) Thanks for the crits Sentura, you always raise very valid points. I'm trying to lean towards the opposite spectrum of the uncanny valley, highly stylised as apposed to realistic. I had considered a building under construction, surrounded by scaffolding so that might make an appearance. I'll be interested to here what you think after the next update.
  12. Awesome concept, well implemented Insta. Nice one.
  13. First post updated. Yeah I know, it still looks empty. Just added a few signs and trees. Still more detailing to do outside before moving to the interior.
  14. I like your reference Bic-B@ll. Do you have a specific game in mind or just making it for the sake of it? Dux: nice curvy architecture.
  15. Great start Quakis/Aigik. I like the variation and vibrance of colour in the textures. I hope you retain that look as you refine them. Tofu: That shot doesn't give much away but it looks well composed.
  16. Great architecture and attention to detail. Looking forward to checking it out.
  17. Source is apparently super ultra cheap to license and gets used for stuff like edutainment games. There's about half a dozen "real" videogames either made or coming out in Source third party. VtmB, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, Postal 3, Sin: Episodes Emergence, Zenoclash, etc. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Source_engine They're doing better than ID licensing right now, actually I haven't heard any news of anyone licensing Cryengine. Maybe once their console versions are ready. I was thinking about this quite some time ago. As far as FPS engines go, UT3 dominates 3rd party liscenses by a long shot. Due to it's scalability/portability and non reliance on direct X it appears on all sorts of platforms. Source and IDtech don't come close. Here's some details I got from wikipedia in june this year (wikipedia takes forever to load through work firewall so can't check for updated lists). There were no details for Cryengine or IDtech5 at the time I got this info. 18. Insurgency is the only HL2 mod I know of with populated servers in Australia. I've never had a decent game of Dystopia due to lack of servers but I'd like to. Same with FoF, it just keeps getting better and better but there's no damn servers here. I haven't checked out any mods for other current gen engines. That reminds me, been meaning to checkout Hourences current project. http://forums.mapcore.net/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=11394

    New System

Thanks for the opinions. Like Thrik said the i7 uses some tri channel shit instead of dual hence the 6gb RAM. I blew my budget and only got 2x 2gb anyway. I've heard the performance gain is negligable. It's likely I won't be able to afford another significant upgrade for a few years so I went the new architecture with the possibility of replacing parts down the track. I was expecting to pay an early adopter tax but the price I paid is comparable to a top line previous gen system. I don't know what prices are like abroad but the i7 920 is actually cheaper than some previous gen Intel quads (eg. Q9650 is approx $859 aust, i7 920 $512). The motherboard was damn expensive though, $521! The bottome of the i7 range, the 920 is a pretty good overclocker from what I've read. I'm going for a modest overclock between 3-3.2ghz. Dux: I was initially looking at the ATI 4870x2 but it's power consumption is insane and there's no performance gains unless the resolution is above 1920x1080 (max rez of my monitor). The factory overclocked GTX 260 is comparable in performance to a GTX 280 and runs much cooler + it was cheaper. My current system is an AMD Athlon. Saddly AMD is way behind in performance, especially when it comes to demanding tasks like rendering are compiling. They're not even significantly cheaper than Intel. I tend to sway between Intel/AMD ATI/Nvidea depending on who has the best gear in my price range. This time it's in favour of the big guys. System is ordered and on it's way .
  20. Nice one Meo. Fun theme and looks good too. I'll check it out ingame soon.
  21. Coming along really nicely sk3tch. In a couple of weeks I should get around to making those models I promised ages ago.
  22. Punky: It's looking better than earlier shots I saw on Interlopers but it seems to be lacking a clearly defined theme. Insta: Incredible. The passages cut into the landscape, spiraling around are too fucking cool.

    New System

Got a massive tax return this year. Decided to blow majority of it on a new system as my Dual Core Athlon is near death. Been researching parts for a couple of weeks and made compromises based on price, power consumption, quality and heat as I'm planning on a modest CPU overclock. I compromised on the video card because the GTX 280s run too hot for my liking. What do you guys think? Motherboard Asus P6T Delux CPU Intel Core i7 920 CPU FAN Asus Triton 81 Case Silverstone LC13 E Video Card Zotac Nvidea GTX 260 AMP2! PSU Seasonic PSR 650W RAM Asus 2Gb DDR3 1333mhz x3 Hard Drive Western Digital 7200RPM 500gb x3 (RAID 5) Monitor 24" 2ms Acer P244WB
  24. awesome. A mate has it on the PS3, can't wait to checkout SF2 in HD glory. Without doubt my all time favourite game.
  25. I enjoyed ST:EF 1. I bought 2 but never really got around to playing it. All I remember is the Borg Boss. I think I enjoyed what I saw but it was ages ago. I lent it to a friend and never saw it again. I've been looking round for a cheap copy actually.
