i get amazing frames with 1 gig of corsair xms, an overclocked 9700 pro and a few other nice side things (great motherboard, audigy 2) costs about $600 and runs almost every recent game with no lag (farcry max detail 1024x768, bf1942 max detail 1280x1024, sims2 max detail 1280x1024, all cod games max detail 1280x1024) you could argue about aa/af but the performance hit is no where near worth the quality improvement.....also bf1942 has problems with aa/af (the text) and thats the game i play the most so i dont bother to be honest though, i do feel frame drops with 1024x768 max detail in doom3....but i dont even like doom3 so smuckums to u~
