Captain P Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 Sometimes I'm really happy I never touch video driver updates... After one of those updates messed up my system I usually only got things to work again after a C:\ format... Quote
curman Posted June 10, 2005 Author Report Posted June 10, 2005 none you bastards thought to suggest SYSTEM RECOVERY? Quote
Kosmo Posted June 10, 2005 Report Posted June 10, 2005 Windows XP system recovery is flimsy at best, they MS can't do a notepad that doesn't crash so how they can do something as complex as system recovery? But enough of MS and their capabilities, I have never ever had problems with Ati drivers apart from the problem involving nForce drivers and Ati drivers, and that shit was nVidiots fault. Quote
cyberjunkie Posted June 10, 2005 Report Posted June 10, 2005 5.6 = nice, some games feel smoother Doom3 is said to give 7-10% boost This driver release was to boost performance more than anything else. Quote
Grin Posted June 10, 2005 Report Posted June 10, 2005 Umh, I ain't updating. Somehow I still feel like I did a mistake when I updated my GF3 to R9800 pro..that card was the best piece of hardware I have ever bought. Next time I'll go with nvidia, this ati thingy ain't gonna cut it. Quote
Taylor Swift Posted June 10, 2005 Report Posted June 10, 2005 I had the same problem but i have a Fx 5200 Ultra card. Everything was okay until "Steam" said that i have to update my drivers. I did it but you know what happened with my hammer editor? All my props turned into pitch black, i deleted the new drivers and installed the old back. Quote
Lee3dee Posted June 11, 2005 Report Posted June 11, 2005 i love my nvidia 6800 the ATI drivers always seemed buggy as early as the Rage 3D chipset Quote
Lurker Posted June 11, 2005 Report Posted June 11, 2005 Crazy shit happened to my computer updating from 5.4 to 5.5, I don't know why. It ran like absolute shit, reallllly slowly. I installed the 5.6s today, and its back to normal. Quote
Kosmo Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 You can't blame the drivers by their own right, it is so much about the setup you are sitting on, the OS, service packs, game patches, hardware and their patches. Along the years ATI has really improved their drivers by miles and at the current, I think ATI drivers are better than nVidia drivers judging by reading the change lists and hardware forums. Granted, every now and then some minor glitches come up like the Mafia glitches back when Mafia was released. But apart from that, I haven't heard of any bigger problems in either companys drivers. amckern Posted June 14, 2005 Report Posted June 14, 2005 ran driver cleaner pro? - http://www.drivercleaner.net Quote
SonicDM Posted June 15, 2005 Report Posted June 15, 2005 i have had that black welcome screen thing before when the installer for the drivers fucked off in the middle of the install. Had to uninstall and reinstall like 50000 times but it worked after a while. Quote
