Getting the increased jump ability opens up so many possibilities!
-
I wouldn't say Arkham was repetitive and boring... just a lot more slow paced and tactical. The "don't get hit" combo mechanic worked wonders and the mob fights difficulty curve was spot on throughout the entire game. Space Marine and God of War, on the other hand, are a lot faster paced and focus on you getting in "the flow", thus larger and larger combats with the odd mix (medusas + minotaurs, fuck) to shake you out of the comfort zone. I'm confident it will be good, but will hold my judgement until I see it

I search every corner I can get to. I'm playing with all visual cues off (so no object highlight) as well as on the "Give me Deus Ex" difficulty. I'm not sure if the latter alters the ammo availability, but sometimes I can walk right past some ammo just because they aren't highlighted =/ but that was my choice and I'm enjoying the game either way \o/

One thing I'm disliking is the imbalance between non-lethal ammo types. I have a truckload of stun-darts for the stun rifle, a couple charges for the pep-gun and my prized handful of the rarest kind of stun-gun charges. It's not much of an issue since I tend to use the sneaky takedowns most of the time, but the rare availability of stun gun ammo made me definitely adapt my tactics. Not sure if the real weapons are this bad since I always seem to find plenty of ammunition around.

Fucking boss battles break the flow of game. Advice: If you are a stealthy sort, try to "feel" when there is a boss coming up and stock up some weapons. Nothing is worse than having to drop your nice upgraded weapons to pick-up something more lethal for the boss... Or just upgrade your backpack... than carry around that emergency rocket launcher.

11 hours in... just faced the first boss. Playing it on the hardest difficulty with no load unless I die. Game is hard, sneaking around is very tense, but rewarding. One thing I don't like is why in these games ALL emails and books are only text. I mean... the newspaper you find is cool because it has an interesting layout and has pictures, but the eBooks for example, I never read them, just interact and collect the "scholar" reward. Would it really be that troublesome to add a few images with subtitles, some graphs and schematics in these? Would have added a lot of value to an otherwise uneventful game mechanic (find blue eBook, interact, get reward, close).

Nah don't quickload if you are spotted, live with the consequences. I do my best not to load from a previous save just to get a second chance at something.
-
Definatelly not complaining, just pointing out the oddities as much odd as it is to come out of your squadmates asses in Battlefield. No complaints about the game as far as I got. Edit: Actually, is there a quicksave? I checked on the options screen and it must have gone unnoticed.

I'm impressed how true it feels to the original. Hacking is cool, I'm going for all stealth and non-lethal weapons, but it feels odd sometimes when I incapacitate half of the enemies and the other half doesn't notice them missing. Another oddity is me making cover to hack in peace, and no one thinks its weird that I'm carrying cardboard boxes around, or that I mysteriously creep out of vents everywhere.

FUUUUUUU Deus Ex. Playing it on Deus Ex difficulty... its awesome, its a blast... Good job on it! I can't wait to play it further!
-
Yeah. The 40K fan in me wants so bad for it to be good, but I have to wait for the full game to see if the level design holds the game up from repetition. But I trust my relics (despite this being their first action title). Anyway... gonna play Deus Ex now =P

Despite the fact that this game will most likely only allow you to shoot (with a bolter, Heavy bolter, plasma gun, plasma cannon, lascannon, sniper bolter, vengeance cannon, bolt pistol) and will only let you cleave (chainsword, power axe, thunderhammer, combat knife) and then you have to repeat it (without a jump pack, with a jump pack, against orks, then chaos cultists, then chaos marines, then chaos demons) along the levels (mostly brown and grey.... and bright blue, orange, green, red, purple, yellow)... I still am looking forward to it, especially if becomes mildly popular and I can finally impress others with the sheer ammount of information I have on the lore of the franchise. I'm sorry you cannot be entertained by just that. But its still a cool action game and that's what matters

Looks awesome for me too. Although the graphics are not much different from the last AvP. I just want the gameplay to be as much of scary shit I'm going to die horribly moments as possible.

Lol I quoted you and would post "That is so page 37", and then I see the quote tags...

Damn that is very impressive. Looks hot indeed.

I can only speak from the demo, but it felt like a God of War with guns (for both you and your foes) and a 3rd person follow camera. Enemies are numerous and combat is quite frenetic. Please refer to the demo videos below. I've skipped the intro, story cinematics and jump right into action. Combat: http://youtu.be/atWwJ8J3ciU?t=2m35s Jump pack http://youtu.be/c4tUdt6g38o?t=47s Edit: I've watched Madworld gameplay videos and, from what I can tell, Madworld is slower paced with more emphasis on the killing blows and different wiimote motions. In Space marine executing enemies is just a mini cutscene with a few of them having quick time events (such as executing the Big ork with a chainsaw requiring you to press the attack button as quickly as possible). So I don't believe Madworld would be the best reference.

Space Marines don't need cover, their armor IS the cover =P This translates in the game by not being able at ALL to take cover in the Gears sense (wall hugging). Alec from RPS describes this perfectly: As he notes at the end the Demo was very satisfying but we are still unsure of how this will happen throughout the length of the game. If you want to, read the full demo impressions here, it could very well dismiss your doubts better than I could: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/08 ... ne-demo-2/ Bear in mind I'm not interested in the MP part of the game, so I can't really comment on that. I'm not familiar with the game modes available. I know it's got character customization and class separation (3 classes: melee, assault and heavy weapons).

"This franchise has a huge fan base already, so I'm just not going to like it because I don't want to." Try to think of it as a brand new franchise. If you read my post carefully I said that me and the folks here at the studio liked the gameplay, not any of them familiar with 40K lore but myself. But you don't need to read my posts carefully, nor do you need to try it out or like it. You also don't need to wipe your ass, but it's just good hygiene. If you want to elaborate on your previous topics though, I'd be very interested why its such a huge pass, or why do you think it only appeals to the 40K fans. THQ and Relic have done an incredible job with the 40K franchise, not exclusively for the 40K fans. Dawn of War set the mechanics for Company of Heroes and Dawn of War 2, especially the second expansion (Chaos Rising I believe) had some very interesting campaign mechanics. I can only hope that they will do for action games what they did for strategy games in DoW. The demo at least felt very different from both God and Gears of War. I can't judge for the entirety of the game for all I have seen is the Demo, so I don't know how long it is or how are the levels paced and how the challenge curve is. Anyways, I'm mostly interested in the SP campaign anyway. MP might be fun though, so I'm considering it a bonus. As for Co-op, if it indeed has, it would be awesome.

The RPS review was full of everything I expected from this game. I can't wait to play!

I strongly suggest playing the demo. It may seem a bit difficult at first, but you have to consider they drop you off at the start of the second stage, so you basically skip all combat tutorials and your very first fight is against a huge mob of orks that are joined by a big Nob at the end. The Jump pack mission in the demo is a blast as well, the jump pack mechanic feels very visceral if not a bit overpowered on the level presented. If you are still reluctant to try it out consider the fact that it at least is not another grey/brown man shooter

Demo is out on steam. I've played it on my PC here at work with a mouse and keyboard and must say that they did a pretty decent job of mapping the brawler gameplay to it. It feels like a mix of Gears of War and God of War, a Gears God of War² if you would. I enjoyed the gameplay as did most of the people in the studio, but from the perspective of a Warhammer 40K fan I can say that this demo gave me some of the biggest nerdgasms ever. Their iteration of all the iconography and setting of warhammer is spot on. I recommend any action shooter brawler fan to check out this game.

Oh god I hope it runs on my machine

My highest moment on D2 was when my level 66 hardcore tankazon (sword and shield amazon) finally died at a nightmare Baal run. I had gone as far as Hell act 2 with her before. And my level 81 skelemancer died at a random nightmare desert tomb when I was playing drunk and couldn't chug down purple potion fast enough after being poisoned... damn he had killed Diablo on Hell and was on a safe path to get hell Baal... I miss those characters. And the only way we could play Hardcore on battlenet was to have extremely secluded and locked down password protected games. Good times.

Thanks guys, I appreciate all the feedback, even from a small video. This is the major gripe I have with the video, we had to record the scenes late at night in the studio an it was just me and 3 other guys =/
