johnmgarcia Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 Hey all, So me n some friends were chosen to compete in the 2011 Rosetta Stone Game Jam next month, and I was wondering if anyone knew any good ways to prepare for the 36 hour competition, or if you know any good strategies for designing games in short amounts of time.. Thanks for the help everyone! -John Garcia http://www.johnmgarcia.com Quote
Nysuatro Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 Since when do you have to be chosen? Or isnt this the same as global gamejam? Quote
johnmgarcia Posted December 11, 2010 Author Report Posted December 11, 2010 this is a different game jam than the global game jam. this one is held by rosetta stone and has prizes =) apple prizes =) 30 teams applied, 11 were chosen, then broken into 2 competition categories, professional and student http://www.rosettastonegamejam.com/ Quote
AlexM Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 rosetta stone is having a game jam? weird I have some advice. Do ALL your coding in the first 24 hours, then do the art. Use rough or placeholders in the meantime. After a day of no sleep you will be coding at a disadvantage. Also I know this is obvious but keep the scope low. I tried to keep it low and still ended up trying to code a stealth AI mechanic on my entry to Ludum Dare. It worked but it didn't work wonderfully. Having fewer features that work wonderfully is better than many that work barely and this is highly reflected in peer judgement, Good luck Quote
Nysuatro Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 yes art is really second priority on this kind of jams. And try to think procedural. And most of all, have fun But I guess I don't have to remind you of that Quote
