Hey Lukas,

First I'd like to say that you've got some nice stuff on your page !

I like your introduction videos even though they are a bit too long. The Cryengine 2 walkthrough video was okay, but I got a little bit confused because I first saw your great screenshots and the video didn't look like those. I assume that you captured the video in "low details" ? I wouldn't do that ! capture it at high and put anti-aliasing at 4 or something.

I think your portfolio is easy to use and all screenshots are in full screen available, which is great ! my favorite project is your UE 3 Mirror's Edge map, I really like it.

Way to go !

I can tell that you already followed a lot of the advice we all generally give on these forums, and even got inspired by many members' websites in your own layout :)

I really like your mod for CryEngine 2, I think the concept is awesome although I would have preferred a different art direction for the props :)

Good job on the Mirror's Edge level, I didn't even know that game could be modded...

Portfolio wise, I think you're doing just fine even though I'm not a fan of the rollover effect on the buttons (looks too busy) and you could remove the home button since your name already takes us there.

Hmm, guess the length really is an issue then... Because right before you see the ingame footage I tell you that unfortunately I had to set everything to low graphics because screencapturing and my (crappy, well not really but I'm in my last year so it's pretty old... now) school laptop (and I don't have anything else :s) can't run this on high. But I was using Camtasia Studio to record, which is a performance hog... I'll check if I can use fraps to record and stream the voice in another program and bring it together, should be able to bring it to medium-high graphics then cos I used fraps for the walkthrough of "Mirror's Edge Overtime", and the framerate is pretty steady there! For now, I'll place an overlay in youtube to warn people so they aren't confused if they just scroll through it.

Guess you missed that part, and I don't blame you, if it's too long it's too long ;) I'll see if I have the time to make the first part shorter so people don't miss that info.

Thanks!

Yes I did, I'm glad you noticed! I'm not gonna lie, I watched a lot of portfolio's to check out the layout and see what worked and what didn't. But I still tried to give it my own vibe and not just blatantly copy.

Thanks for the feedback! I already made it less busy... I think you would've freaked out if you saw the previous version, haha :D Nice to point it out though, I'll check with more people if they see it as a problem and I'll change it then!

First I had the home button, but a friend pointed out that he couldn't go back (guess he didn't see the home icon as a "home" link, perhaps text instead then?) so then I hyperlinked my name as well... But yeah, guess it's a bit redundant now.

If you had to choose which would you keep? A text button "home", next to my "resume" button. Or the hyperlink on my name?

If you look at my website, you can see that I went for none. I just wanted my site to feel "button less" as much as possible, so I tried to integrate everything so the work shines more so than the template. I guess I always thought that the interactive icons spoke for themselves and no one had any issue reading them and clicking them if needed.

From what Google Analytics tell me, it works just fine, I get hits on all pages (obviously more on the index than any other of course)

  • 5 years later...

www.lukasvandaele.com updated with my latest work on Mirror's Edge Catalyst.

THERE ARE SPOILERS on the Mirror's Edge Catalyst page, pictures should be fairly OK but don't read too much if you don't want me to spoil some events/plot. You've been warned!

If you click on an image it opens up in a new tab, like/dislike? For me that's always how I want it but would love to hear your input!
