[Source] Compiling maps under Vista = unresponsive system.

Seems I found the problem, it was the user account control ( that annoying thing that ask you permission for everything). I re-enabled it and issues disappeared. Heh, just hope this can help other unfortunate people like me.

weird that you can't get to the task manager from ctrl+alt+del... that's how I get to it in Vista.

Geez that's a hard trade-off... turning UAC back on to compile?! idk if I can handle that. :P

Yes well, maybe I didn't explained too well, the computer just didn't let me do anything except visiting the ctrl+alt+screen, but not launching some app (like task manager). Just very odd. The trade-off is there, but I'll have to live with it for the moment. Imagine debugging some code when the hl2 executable crashed and I only could log off :D

BTW, now I'm happier with Vista, in XP I had to set priorities manually for some apps, but this OS handle loads much better.

It seems that the latest SDK update is the issue because I have Vista and compiling was working fine for me until this last update.

Lets just hope i'm wrong because you know how long it takes for Valve to get another update for the SDK out.

I was wrong yay!

My problem was an unoptimized map  plus my borked mobo doesent help either :fist:

This wasn't Valve's or Vista's fault in the end :D In fact I should say Vista has been much more responsive now, once my main issues are gone.
