resident91 Posted December 24, 2016 Report Posted December 24, 2016 Hello everyone! I was on vacation days thinking about whether it would be viable or possible to make a counter strike map in the style of today's game engines like Unity or Unreal.I mean creating maps with Source with models modulate themselves using static props and nothing else. Without touching the brushes at all.Is there any kind of limitation that will not let you do it this way? Sorry for my english Quote
Vorontsov Posted December 24, 2016 Report Posted December 24, 2016 (edited) Nope, don't do this. It's not very viable in the source engine as of now. Reasons include bad lighting compared to combining brushes and models. Edited December 24, 2016 by Vorontsov hgn 1 Quote
hgn Posted December 24, 2016 Report Posted December 24, 2016 Hehe, I tried doing this at one point, as voro said it doesn't work, and for me hardly at all And as well as bad lighting, you will get a whole new set of errors. Valve's de_nuke is a very good example of the brush to model ratio that should be used for best results Quote
Crowbarous Posted December 24, 2016 Report Posted December 24, 2016 You at least need nodraw brushes to be world, to not have the entirety of the map rendered, and very clever model cutting so the least is rendered. Quote
resident91 Posted December 24, 2016 Author Report Posted December 24, 2016 Thanks for answering and giving your opinions!Another of my doubts:Many Web sites talk about the limitations of Source. Some say that at most on a level there may be 4096 objects between props and brushes.Others say that there is really no limit of props but that a limit of 8192 gives brushes. Can anyone remove doubts about this?Thank you!
