Hi All, I recently launched a single player mapping challenge over on my site. I won't repeat all the details here but I wanted to let you know that in association with Michelle Sleeper, (Amazing prop maker) once of the prizes (yet to be decided how we allocate it) will be a fully finished Mertrocop Mask. Michelle regularly streams the making of the mask on the https://www.twitch.tv/makingitup channel (on Tuesday at 6pm EDT (GMT -4) and Saturday at noon EDT). In addition, there is a $600 prize fund and probably a "Raising the Bar" book. Full details can be found here: https://www.runthinkshootlive.com/posts/special-challenge-nostalgiaville/ Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi All, I am very interested in collaborating with you on a challenge. The special challenge is being run by me and an individual and I have discussed the possibility of your becoming involved and he is very interested. He is currently writing the exact theme description and I will share it privately with you as soon as it has been completed so you can decide if that's something that interests you. If not, then somebody from MC can join my Discord server where we discuss potential themes etc.

Hi Everybody, Just to let you know that I have launched a new mapping challenge. Full details are on the site: http://www.runthinkshootlive.com/posts/station60ville-mapping-challenge-theme-announcement/ but the basics are: Theme Details I want mappers to create a resistance station. The exact gameplay objective will be the decision of the mapper. It could be simply finding the station while being chased by the Combine, defending the base from attack or you could even play AS the Combine and attack the station. The station must be the central theme of the map and the player should be able to explore its various parts. With regard to its location, that’s entirely up to the mapper. It could be partly underground and partly above, it could be a series of town houses connected via tunnels or a dam. The choice is the mappers’. Ideally, there would be some hard to reach sections of the station that require the player to explore. The player should feel that this base has been around for a while, but also it should be clear that the rebels have made the best of a bad situation and not built something from scratch. Don’t make this a newly built fortification – make it a re-purposed area/building/location. Deadline The deadline for submitting maps is: Monday 3rd August at 12pm GMT That’s 19 days, with 3 full weekends. Please let me know if you have any questions.

RTSL: CombineBaseVille Mapping Challenge
planetphillip replied to planetphillip's topic in Level Design
Well, I used to have longer deadlines but two things happened; people got more ambitious and realized too late and didn't enter anything. Perhaps these people are "no-life" people but the shorter deadline also help people stay focused and realistic. Anyway, maybe one day you can enter a challenge. -
Howdy All, I am pleased to announce another RTSL Mapping Challenge. Full details are available here: http://www.runthinkshootlive.com/posts/announcing-combinebaseville-mapping-challenge/ However, unlike ALL my previous challenges, the prizes for this are via ORIGIN not Steam. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

It's very quiet here. Show me something. -
RaiseTheBarVille, our joint Half-Life Mapping Challenge
planetphillip commented on Thrik's article in Special Events
Actually, that's because the rules come from all my mapping challenges and they are all single player. Everybody on my site has all the games listed, so it's no problem. To be honest, if this question had been asked in the first few days, I'm sure we would have said yes, but since people have been working for a week now and they might not see this, I think it's better if we say no to keep it far. Sorry. -
RaiseTheBarVille, our joint Half-Life Mapping Challenge
planetphillip commented on Thrik's article in Special Events
Well, what we are looking for is more than just changing the look of a particular place. I wouldn't worry too much about the "rest of the game", just focus on the "What if...?" part. We are happy if you re-imagine a place but we really want the reason to be some small change in the story. You don't have to "tell" the story, but the change should be clear. -

I have added a FAQ to my post. I have sent it to Thrik, who I am sure will add it to the MapCore page. Please let me emphasis that no question is too small to ask. Better to ask now than work for 5 weeks and find you should have asked at the beginning. -

I never said he should pakrat the models. I thought he was asking if he should use Combine soldiers in place of standard HL1 soldiers in HL,OF and BS settings. -

Well, remember this is a What If style map. Perhaps the Combine happened to notice the portals earlier in this case and took the chance to send an expeditionary force into BM. -

planetphillip commented on Thrik's article in Special Events
Yeah, probably best if we disallow the decompile aspect, but not because it's not a good idea but because of the potential problems. As far as remaking specific locations go, as long as it's only to get the map started rather than the main element. How about some loading text to "set the scene"? -

planetphillip commented on Thrik's article in Special Events
As far as playtime, the longer the better but I don't mean to sound facetious. Of course, we didn't really set a minimum and if somebody came up with a stunning idea that only lasted 5 minutes then that would be cool, but it probably wouldn't win. -

Hi all, I am pleased to announce my newest mapping competition called GravityGunVille. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Contact: Phillip or William Website: http://podcast17.com/ Email: feedback@podcast17.com BEGIN TRANSMISSION: Podcast 17 has been launched! We are pleased to announce the launch of Podcast 17, a weekly podcast centred around the Half-Life universe and its many modifications. To our knowledge we are the only podcast currently in production which is completely dedicated to discussing Half-Life news, reviews, maps, mods, gossip and interviews. With two highly opinionated and verbose Half-Life freaks; William and Phillip, serving as co-hosts, the show is sure to feature a plethora of guests and special interest features. The pilot episode has already been released and was enthusiastically received. The next transmission is scheduled for recording on Sunday the 26th October 2008 and will be available a short time afterwards. We would love to hear from Citizens about the type of content they would like to hear and also any ideas they have for future features or general improvements to the podcast. Guest places are available but are limited, so if you are interested in joining us during a broadcast to either discuss Half-Life or to promote your Half-Life related work then please contact us. The podcast's theme is based around the idea of an underground rebel radio station broadcasting informational transmissions to Citizens not long after the Seven Hour War. Half-Life Resurrection
planetphillip replied to planetphillip's topic in Non-Professional Recruitment
The response to Half-Life Resurrection has been quite poor. Lots of people have said "Hey, great idea" but few have voluntered to work. I have had a few applications from a variey of skill specialists but the main problem I have is that the project desperately needs a Technical Team Leader because without one it is immpossisble to allocate and organise the work for the specialists. The role of the TTL can be a consultative one, suitable for somebody with plenty of experience and knowledge but maybe short on time. If you are that person or know somebody suitable please email, IM or PM me. These mods have waited quite a few years and another few months won't make much difference. I'm going to perserve and perhaps become the biggest pain-in-the-butt the HL1 mapping community has seen. I'm hoping to have a brand new trailer made and that may generate some extra pubilicity. -
EVER WANTED TO HELP BRING THE DEAD BACK TO LIFE? Well now you can! With the launch of Half-Life: Resurrection you will be able to participate in resurrecting cancelled half-life mods. Half-Life Resurrection is a team project that aims to finish cancelled Half-Life 1 mods. This is done with the permission of the original mod creators. In many ways this will be harder than starting a completely new mod. Team members will have to understand that if they work on a partially completed map they must finish it with as few changes as possible. Our task is to finish the mod and keep it as original as possible. The project is looking for dedicated and talented members of various skills and experience. We would like the team to consist of many nationalities to reflect the international community of Half-Life. The only language requirement is to be able to read and write a basic level of English. The Project has already managed to sign-up to two mods, with another couple in discussion. We hope you find Half-Life Resurrection interesting and will consider joining the team. If you have any questions please either visit the website. The website is live and includes exact team positions' available, details of the projects, a brief introduction in four languages (with more on the way!) and a forum. http://www.planetphillip.com/resurrection/ PlanetPhillip AKA Half-Life Archaeologist http://www.planetphillip.com/ Commentary and Analysis of Sci-Fi Single Player First Person Shooters
