well actually post pros that have gone digital still use their good ol hasselblad. They just buy a super high megapixel back for it that is actually in some ways higher resolution than even the 5x4 negatives that guys like ansel adams use. Heck head on over to http://www.hasselblad.com/ and check out their new 39 megapixel monster. You know if these oldschool camera makers are going digital that it's the wave of the future. That said there will always be analog junkies. Hell in some ways I am too, I have stax of records and still preffer the sound of them for some live recordings. Of course I would never trade them in for my ipod either. - ook

"I'm sure people will take AMAZING care of their negatives but if you take one match later and they're ashes." Sorry but I think your line of logic is not correct. Digital media will evolve and I will take my pictures with me and hand them down to my children just like my grandparents did. Except mine will be on a server with many reduntant backups instead of rotting in a carboard box and they will look just as good (or bad!) then as they do now. - ook

I guess everyone has different experiences with old film. I'm currently in the process of scanning and color correcting hundreds of my parents old pictures so they won't just derteriorate in the box. Especially the ones of my parent's parents. Digital is the way to go for long term storage because it's lossless assuming you take care of your media and make regular backups. Don't get me wrong, I love the analog look of film, but I don't think it's fair to say it keeps better than digital. - ook

i'm confused... you're saying digital has worse archival properties than celuloid? digital = forever. celuloid = gets yellow and some colors start to fade after 20-30 years. film has much worse archival properties than digital. - ook

I would suggest buying a tripod with a quick release on it and anchoring it to the ground with some cinderblocks. Then you can just go out, slap down the camera, shoot, and take the camera inside when you are done. Probably want to get a tarp to cover the tripod when you are not using it too. - ook

I got my new photo blog up and running finally. That shall be the new resting place for my photo work. It's updated with at least one new pic every day and will eventually be linked to my blog where I'll post stuff like pics of my recent trip to japan and other things you don't care about like my feelings on the most ubiquitous structures in the field of MEMS... the Cantilever. The core site for icecoldmilk is still under construction but will likely exist before the end of ever. Check it out here -> i c e c o l d p h o t o. Also enjoy "sexy pants kid monster wheel leg smoke hand oh no i dropped my camera". - ook

Heya, all. Thought I would throw up some of my recent pictures. Been learning the custom white ballance feature on the Rebel as well as how to use "P" properly. A few of these are from a recent trip to paris but most are from a great trip to the the Fort Worth Zoo last weekend. Most of these images are "as is" from the camera. A few have been cropped down and a few of the reptiles were intentionally underexposed and then releveled to improve shooting in the low light conditions without a tripod. Also used a polarized lens for many of the reptiles to reduce the reflections in the glass. As always comments and critiques are much appreciated. [edit] - ook
