Hi everyone, thank you all for this great initiative within the mapping community. I finally had time to sit down and do some mapping and am happy to partake in the competition next to some great mappers.
Depot is a map set in an endstation in Japan and features a modern metro station and the adjacent metro depot.
I started by drawing the layout idea by hand and then converted it into a grey box layout in Hammer. This first version was then iterated many times to improve scaling issues and remove unfair angles.
Depot is a small defuse map with early engagements and fast rotation possibilities for both teams. I wanted to take calculated risks with the layout, while still respecting the fundamentals of level design. The map aims to be competitive while still offering fun and unique firefights. At its core, Depot is a Three-lane map with the middle being central. Controlling mid allows terrorists to lock down CT rotations and gain additional attack avenues to each bombsite through the iconic sky bridge. The sky bridge also divides the middle into two parts, allowing for some clever splits and strategies through CT spawn.
The map is not done and the layout may require tweaking, but I'm happy with the progress made so far. A lot of work is still left on detailing and polishing. Feedback is appreciated, and good luck to all other entries!
