Hell I think your current design looks great. Good job. It sets the tone for whoever joins your team to do these for you.

$100 Map Request - WW1 Themed map
A. Switz replied to A. Switz's topic in Non-Professional Recruitment
Well seeing Im probably one of the only people who actually pay for maps that I want made, people here probably remember my old requests and will ask why Im not paying as much for this one. Im just answering their question before they ask it. I dont see anything wrong with that and being truthful. I know how long it takes to make maps, Im just shooting for the off chance that someone was maybe already thinking of doing a WW1 atmosphere map and this $100 could tip that decision into action. But no one sets out to make a full blown training map like my prior requests, hence the reason I had to literally buy a mapper. -

Update I have someone on Facepunch who wants to do the map. So, for fair chance Ill wait until Monday before selecting who will get the job. Meaning theres now just a very short window left to request the job and show me some prior work examples if you where thinking about doing this. Thanks -
$100 Map Request - WW1 Themed map
A. Switz replied to A. Switz's topic in Non-Professional Recruitment
And yes, My own mapping abilities are slowly getting better. But Im still rough around the edges and Im actually trying to finish up a current map I am working on and make another WHILE holding this project so I can have 3 new maps ready to release on my clans 2 year anniversary. -
Hi, everybody, I am back with a new map request. My last two I requested and paid for turned out excellent. Figured I'd ask for another and see what I get. But this time is different, it is NOT a training map! But thats also why the final pay is lower than the other two I requested seeing this is a map that will be a bit more fun to make. Vital Information Regarding Project Deadline To Complete: March 05, 2012 Payment Method: $25 after first week and $75 on completion' (Via Paypal) (Or I can purchase games on Steam amounting to those totals for you) Game it is for: WW1 Source mod (Link for mod is below, but feel free to use what your familiar with and pakrat) What is the Map Focusing on: The Argonne offensive (period about the "Lost Battalion") - Mix of woods, sharp hills, trenches and an area of no man's land) Map Size: Medium to Large Optional Settings Day or Night: Would prefer night with random flares popping off in the sky that illuminate map. But if thats too much of a challenge then day is fine Dry/Rain/Snow: Temperate Climate. No Rain ______________ -------------------- Map Request It is encouraged if your very serious about doing this job that you watch the movie "The Lost Battalion" and pay attention to its surroundings from trench to trench warfare to the uphill climb to "keep pushing" German forces back unbeknownst that they where the only combat element to breach the Germans defensive lines and penetrate into their territory thus being cut off for 6 days and 80% casualties later became known as the "Lost Battalion". Its actually a military disaster but its worth its weight in gold compared to other great stands like the Alamo, Thermopylae, Litte Big Horn, etc. Anyway, as with he movie, (Picture this from the Allies side) the first thing they will encounter is a short no man's land with the Germans weakly developed front line trench at the end. Then the upward climb into the forest starts. At the peak of the summit is the Germans real defensive lines. Do not worry about game balancing, I created a ghetto (but working) advancing spawn system in WW1 Source that can help the Allies have a chance in this map. If you are selected I have two maps that are currently in DODS that I would like to show you to give you inspiration on what I am looking for in visual display. I will talk to you on steam about gifting DODS for you or recording a video to show you of what I like and dislike about said maps and how I would like you to aim to recreate the flow they did in theirs but for WW1 appeal. If you are thinking of doing this project you must - Have strong abilities in creating advanced displacements and geometry. - Have a above average eye for natural looking surroundings and manipulation - Have a lot of free time on your hands to meet the tough deadline - Be friendly and comfortable with going in the direction Im looking for, not what your looking for * Also, you may need to know some modeling to create some of the barricades and fallen trees that will help make up the Germans final defensive line at the top of the hill. And of course, have WW1 Source - http://www.moddb.com/mods/ww1-source If you fit this criteria and you want a shot at it, please PM me your Steam info along with a portfolio or example images of prior work. Thanks!

Tryout Ended. One mapper competed. He's guaranteed either a $50 game or the job.

Just Three Days Left! Thats right guys, only three days left to get your tryout portion completed and submitted. So far I only have seen ONE person attempting this project. That doesnt mean their arent others, but its a safe bet that the number of people trying is very low. Odds are a lot of you who where going to do this but decided not to just scrolled through the very long typed out reqeust above. Im telling you guys, as far as making this map is concerned, you would have a much harder and longer time mapping a random "standard" map. Read through the request, over half the section in this request are already done for you! All youll mainly be working on is Section A because that is the only area of the map there is no current work completed for it. And better yet, the tryout part is actually a part of the map request. You guys spend more time making maps for free to help others than what it would take to make an entry for a chance to win a great game or be hired for a $200 project. I hope most of you guys just havent publicly announced your trying out because I would hate to see someone miss this chance if it is something they really want to do. Either way, good luck and THANK YOU to the few who do tryout.

Updated first post. Tryouts started. Thanks to all who attempt!

A reminder (and a selfish 'bump'), The request will be going up in 24 hours and tryouts may begin. Tryouts end on October 8th. I am releasing it a day early because I have to go to work (12 hour shift) plus itll give you guys more of the weekend to work on it instead of hurting yourselves over the weekday to get time in on it instead of doing something else you would rather be doing. Again, the actual tryout portion to be hired for this project is not overly much. All it will be is a small area (20 square yards probably, but depends on how you envision it). It will involve one building (inside will not have much going on either) and a little environment around it so I can get a picture of your style and how the map would look like if I hire you for this job. For individuals like yourselves this is not much of a challenge for you except that others will more than likely be trying to do the same thing as you. Another thing, DO NOT FREAK OUT WHEN YOU SEE THE REQUEST. Im going to go ahead and tell you guys what I wrote up as yalls "instructions" is extremely thorough and loaded with images, videos and example images of the look I am going for. So in laments terms...its HUGE! BUT, As for the amount of stuff you would have to do when making this map, it would probably come out to being only a fraction of what you would have to do for a normal map. I just have a habit of rambling and overly explaining details. If you start reading through my instructions youll see that it really isnt all that much. The main thing you would most likely be focusing on is texturing over brush work. But I do have some things that will test your brushwork and I think that you guys will enjoy making them alot actually. And remember, I will be rewarding who I feel would be my 2nd and 3rd pick out of the entries. The 2nd place designer will get a $50 game purchased for them via steam and the 3rd place mapper will get a $20 game. The mapper I pick will get their first $50 payment at weeks end (after one week of work on the project), then $75 after the first month and when the job is complete in 1.5-2 months (whenever you finish or look like your about to wrap things up). P.S., I will only do Paypal. If I have to wire it comes out of the $200. If for some reason I do not find what I am looking for I will still do the game rewards to the top 2 but not hire a mapper. But judging from the looks of this crowd and my quick stalking of the profiles of the people who seemed interested, I am very sure that damn near all of you guys will nail this tryout and make my choice even more difficult to make. And that leads me to another thing, Im going to go ahead and say this (because I know I will piss people off if I do not choose them), I am not a mapper. Well I am, but not nearly good enough t call myself one. So Im not a hammer guru. You very well could had displayed the most skill in your tryout and I am too much of a rookie to have noticed it. Trust me when I say that I am sorry if you do not make it in my top 3. I HATE seeing people work for me and not get compensated for it. I just hope that you are a good sport about it and who knows, I can think of many other people who need maps, though I dont know if any would pay though but at least I could help you by spreading your name around to try and get clients. And that is about it. Again, please do not freak out when you see this enormous request page tomorrow. Just read through some of it and youll start seeing the flow of the request and that all in all it really isnt that huge or complicated of a map request. But keep in mind, I am expecting a deadline of 2 months on this map. Like I said in my initial post, "If you cannot deliver, do not step up to the plate." But I can handle unexpected events that may force you to have to take some time away from working on the project. As long as your honest with me and up front I can work with you and help you out.

Check back on September 30th for the tryout map info and the actual map request itself!

$200 Map Request Tryout The tryout ends on October 8th at 1800EST (6PM). All entries must be made by then (do not be afraid to send incomplete entries). To make your entry, you can either reply here, send me a PM, or show me via steam (my steam contact is at the bottom). If posting your entry, please state your steam ID or URL along with some screenshots and a BSP of your tryout map. Again, if you dont want to provide these for public view please PM me the parts you do not want the public to see. The mapper I choose will be hired for this job and a total of $200 will be paid from three installments (dates are explained on the map request link). The mapper who I feel is the runner up will receive a $50 steam game purchase on Oct. 8th. And the mapper who would be my 3rd pick will receive a $20 game on Oct. 8th. For everyone else I am very sorry. Believe me, I know how much work it takes to work on maps and I hate it that for a few of you this may indeed be a waste of time. No hard feelings please. Who knows, you may have a style that I think can work for something else I may plan up in the future. Also, after the tryout ends I will put together a sort of community vote to allow the community to vote for fun on who they would had chose if they where in my shoes. Im sorry but I cannot offer a prize for winning this because that may lead to vote tampering. Please state in your entry if you would like your entry to be voted on in the community vote for fun. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ And here it is, the actual map request Game: Day of Defeat Source (you can do the tryout map in any game you wish, if you are picked I will buy DODS for you) Map Name: MCRD Parris Island (Marine Corps Recruit Depot) Map Location: Beufort, South Carolina USA Type of Map: Realistic training base Maps Time Frame: 1940-1945 style/look (if your unsure if something looks too newish...go older looking) Weather: See vast amt of images in request. Sunny and cloudless Skybox: Marsh or Forest Terrain: Flat!!! (but for optimizing purposes you can do what you need to help you) Vegetation: Sand/Grass blend, Shrubs, Oaks, Moss, Palm Trees (not growing wild though) Go To the Request page: http://3rdMarines.org/Parris_Island_Request/Parris_Island_Request.html The first thing you will probably do is start scrolling through it...and scrolling...and scrolling....and then say to yourself "HolyS**T! F This". Trust me, just start reading through some of it and youll see that its actually MUCH less than what the request makes it look like. Each area is completely described and contains images and videos. I over explain things. Its what I do. But for $200 and this "Tryout" you'll guess that I really want this map to be perfect. It is special to me because I used to be a Marine. My clan is technically a "Realism Unit" but as realistic as we can get in terms of what we teach our guys, how we run our recruit training (reason why this map needs to have everything perfect) and even how we talk in game. We are naturally a very tiny clan. But the guys in it are indeed respected by me for their eagerness and will to learn about my beloved corps. It is my way of helping spread awareness for the USMC. The request page covers everything I am looking for and outlines the Tryout Map portion. Be sure to check the very bottom of the page for helpful downloads such as pre-made decals and files if youd rather not make them yourself. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me through steam or here. If you want to add update images to your map for me to give my opinion on go for it. If you want to take a risk and lean a little away from the request to create something you think could work go for it. I know this request sounds like Im VERY picky but Im not. Im in full favor of seeing you be creative and make Parris Island how you would think it would look like in 1940-1945. As long as you add the key features I listed int he table of contents you can go from there completely. ***Good luck to everyone who tries. And thank you so much for even trying in the first place. I know the money is fueling your efforts but I hope that if you happen to get picked that you enjoy making this map (youll probably love the Crucible portion) and the payments become just an added bonus.*** My Steam: newaydover http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197983976576

Source Map Level Design - 1 Map - *Paid*
A. Switz replied to A. Switz's topic in Non-Professional Recruitment
Sorry about the broken BBCode. After posting this in three locations and a few PM's its very late and I didnt feel up to fixing all the links. Just highlight and paste in your url. Thanks guys! -
Hi, My name is Adam and I would like to know if you would be interested in creating a DODS training map for me. It doesnt have to be created on DODS but it would sure help. Id even be willing to gift you DODS if you want a free game as well out of this job. Total price I am willing to pay is $175 to be paid in three installments ($50 after first week, $75 after month, $50 for last two weeks). I am asking other mappers on varius other mapping websites. So needless to say, this project will probably be rewarded to the first level designer who promises they can deliver a very quality design in 1.5 months from now close to being on par with their portfolio work that they show me. The map isnt exceptionally detailed with buildings, streets, and urban settings but mainly an open map so landscaping speed of the mapper is a must. If you are committing yourself to doing this project please reply ASAP. But please do not begin any work because someone else may have beaten you to it. If you do not reply, do not have time, or are not the first to commit and get the job I thank you anyway for your incredible devotion and work put into gaming and making it so much fun for everybody like me. BELOW IS THE MAP REQUEST I know, Im lazy! Im sorry guys, its been over a year since Ive touched Hammer and man...I really dont want to go crazy with it all again nor do I have time anymore while 50+ hours a week and taking four courses in college. So I was thinking, what about some talented mappers who could use a little extra money and actually still love Hammer? Well that lead me here. All in all I would like for this project to be completed in 1.5 months. I realize that is fast but like I said before, most of this map is just landscaping/environment anyway. After first week of work I will be willing to pay $50 (unless you obviously dragged ass). By then you should have at least all the landscaping completed and a few of the structures. After a month it should be all but completed where I will pay an additional $75. And finally after another 2 weeks of touching up and making the map stand out with sounds, ambiance and overall realistic feel I will send the last payment of $50. So there it is, a $175 project doing something you love. Who am I looking for? Well a good designer of course who knows how to optimize a large open map, great and landscaping, has an eye for realistic looking surroundings and is a friendly person (sounds like a date!). But someone who truly loves making maps and can make some really good looking stuff. Mapper will need to be willing to work on bringing in the best textures and models they can find (I will ask permission to use them all you need to do is give me a link to its creators) and work with me every weekend in game for about 20 minutes so I can explain what I want him/her to touch up more or explain whats next in more detail. Must speak English too sorry. And most importantly, I need a mapper who is willing to start immediately and make this his number one project until 1.5 months after being put on this project! **Note that ONE model may have to be custom created because I cannot find what I am looking for anywhere. Basically a pop up Dog target (Waist to head target) What I want it to look like is like in this image but instead of black it needs to be Dev yellow. But obviously not attached to a holder like in this image: WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE Now onto the specifics of the map. OVERALL: Overall the map is on a ocean coastline. The map is based off the Bellows Training Facility in Hawaii where Pacific Marines go on training ops and host RIMPAC every other year. Yes it is a tropical setting, but its not jungle completely. There are still plenty of normal trees and foliage other than palm trees and white sand. For this map I want it to seem alive. I want the player to truly feel like they are in the run down Bellows Training Facility. The facility contains three small pop up target ranges on the coastline, a long 500 yard rifle range (already completed), a gas chamber, pistol range, underground war room (obviously fictional but some other clans could benefit from it), a Course (already completed) and a Sniper Range. Also the map should have the appearance that it is in the 1910-1950 looking time frame. How the Map is Setup: - There are a total of THREE sections the map will contain. Those are illustrated in THIS IMAGE - As you can see from the image each section is separated by the rifle ranges wall so this should help a lot with optimizing. - Each range that uses pop up targets (the small coastline ranges and the sniper range) will have a button that starts and restets the pop ups for each range. In addition in the pop up range areas the shooters fire from bunkers. What I Am Willing To Do: Obviously with all the pop up target ranges in this map most are automatically turned off. So, if you want, all you need to do is create one pop up target (that works as it should) and Ill take a weekend to add them into the map for you and test to make sure they are right. WHAT SURROUNDINGS SHOULD LOOK LIKE AND SKYBOX: Using this IMAGE as North,South,East and West Weather - Dreary. Morning. No rain South - All vegetation. Maybe a abandoned radar station on a cliff in the South East. North - Ocean and coastline. Can do whatever you want here such as adding islands, naval vessels, ocean rocks, etc West - Not much that can be done here. I will have a rifle range toward that will probably be able to see the skybox from here which sucks, but its not a huge deal. However, in the South West is the road that drops off the Marines at the spawn point. So this will need to be able to dispensary naturally. Can add some small cliffs if needed. East - Cliff ridge at the very end of the Sniper and Rifle Ranges. Can jut out into the ocean a bit to make base look more natural. And can extend it to the southern areas if you want. WHAT SHOULD EACH AREA LOOK LIKE: Spawn Area: Ive taken the time to make a quick example in hammer what the spawn area would basically look like. Very basic and no problem for any mapper. Will show to whoever I choose to do this project. Gas Chamber: Also taken the time to make an example of this building Again will show the person who I choose. And again, real basic and easy to create. Would love for it to work. As in on the center table if someone busts a capsule green smoke fills the room and hurts players in it. But I wont lose sleep if it doesnt work. Rifle Range: The rifle range is 100% completed and works. Targets already work as they should. Only are that you will need to work on is the wall around the range and making the target pits area look more natural looking. Pistol Range: The pistol range should basically look like this: http://www.cumberlandbeagleclub.com/gallery/PistolRange.jpg Except keep in mind the building should look like it would in 1940. The targets are on a track that pulls up to the shooter if he wants to get a better look at his group before sending it back to shoot again. OCourse: The actual course is completed besides the ladders needing changed to DODS. Most of the work in this area will be on the landscape around it. Basically the dirt/destroyed grass from all the people to run through the course surrounded by vegetation. It should resemble this: MOUT Town: This is not in the picture but seeing Ive given up trying to learn Hammer again and am paying pretty decent for all of this hell why not. A cardboard village (what we used to call them in the Marines). Basically not easy on the eye, worn down, trashed, rooms extremely big and looks like they went with the cheapest and fastest construction crew to build it. Needs to have pop up targets appear after being triggered by players moving into trigger areas. Small Ranges on Beach: Shooters will shoot from a bunker towards the ocean and pop up targets. Each course will have 30-50 targets and in addition each range will have different speeds the targets pop up (obviously a MG target range would be extremely fast compared to a rifle target range). The targets will be hidden behind small ridge lines in the sand (because the range is right on the oceans beaches) so they would look sort of like this (bad image but basically their are targets behind the ridges this soldier is firing at. In this image he is shooting a pop up target coming from the closest distance at him): Sniper Course: The sniper range uses up the entire coastline. Basically Snipers will shoot over the top of the small ranges to the targets at the end. Again their targets will be pop up targets. However, for fun, I was wanting the rifle range pits (where marines pull and score targets on the rifle range) to extend into the sniper course but look different. So Marines can safely be in the pits and watch the Sniper pick off targets just inches above their heads. No example of this but Im sure you have an idea of what it can look like.
