Concept Artist (all disciplines) Reports to: Creative Director and Art Director Managed by: Art Director Title Description The Concept Artist is responsible for working with the Creative Director and Art Director on the visual development of existing titles as well as new IP within the studio. The concept artist is expected to provide the teams with inspirational illustrations as well as production artwork, including; character designs, environment and object exploration, paint overs, storyboards, color and lighting compositions Essential functions •Work under the Creative Director and Art Director to develop concept artwork that defines the overall look and art style for the game •Assist in creating the style guide for the visual direction and language to be used throughout the project •Create concept designs and art direction materials for each project •Design a wide range of original concepts and subject matter, including; characters, creatures, interior and exterior environments, vehicles, objects. •Create Lighting, composition and mood, color studies, as well as storyboards •Work within different stylistic boundaries set by the Creative Director and Art Director •Produce inspirational, promotional, and marketing art •Collaborate with other team members in order to develop the visual direction for game Preferred skills •Arts related degree •Must have excellent 2D skills and traditional technical knowledge •An excellent understanding of anatomy, character design, color theory, perspective, lighting, and composition •Ability to work on hard surface, industrial, and organic subject matter •Expert in Photoshop, or Painter •Video game concept production a plus! The role is ideal for an individual looking to enter the games industry from University or to grow their existing experience within the premier development environment at Crystal. As a Junior Artist they may be applied to a number of different areas within their field in order to build their experience within a production setting. It is expected that the ideal candidate has the drive and motivation to learn the essential skills to be successful, and is expected to display enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. In addition, resourcefulness and self-motivated to generate ideas and tasks for themselves are key attributes for success.   4. Junior Designer Crystal Dynamics is looking for a talented, creative, self-motivated, and strongly passionate individual to assist the design team in building our next AAA title. For this role, we are looking for team members who will thrive in a collaborate environment, possess outstanding communication skills, and have an unquenchable desire to make outstanding games. This designer will work with the rest of the design department in concert with the Lead Designer to deliver high quality game systems and/or level layouts within a company where expression of an individual’s ideas are encouraged and seen as valuable to the success of the game. Responsibilities: • Assist in generation of any number of game systems and/or level layouts. • Implementation of design at various stages from prototype to final polish. • Creation of rough level and object mesh. • Level and object scripting. • Enemy/NPC design, behavior tuning, and encounter event scripting. • Creation of design documentation (minimal). • Works collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams to produce demonstrable results on rapid iteration loops. • Self manages time and responsibilities to produce work on time and to required quality. • Contributes to a positive work environment. • Other duties as assigned. Requirements: • Loves to problem solve intelligent solutions to creative obstacles. • Unrelenting self-motivation, resourcefulness, and initiative. • Basic knowledge of game design theory and principles. • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with peers and supervisors through discussion or documentation. • Ability to work collaboratively in a group-oriented development structure. • Ability to objectively interpret feedback and integrate changes to existing designs where necessary. • Ability to quickly gain competency in new applications and pipelines. • Experience using a game editor (UnrealEd, Hammer, Sandbox, or other proprietary tool) • Demonstrable design work (shipped title, student project, mod level, etc.) • Capable in Microsoft Word, Excel. • An avid gamer. Pluses: • Proficient in Maya or other 3D modeling program • Portfolio of shipped titles. • Formal game design education. • Programming ability. • Proficient in Microsoft Visio, Powerpoint. • Proficient in Photoshop or other image editing software. • Can’t imagine doing anything else.
