Went to the doctor's office for that yearly check up. I lost... 20 pounds o_o. What I've done: eat slowly, stop when not hungry anymore, replace fries with salad when at a restaurant... 7 min workout daily. In like... 1 month. I was speechless.

No, Dreaming isn't dead. I've got a solid 25 minutes of gameplay right now. My goal has always been an hour. The problem is that SP work is just... exhausting. It's fun, but occupying someone's full attention in a linear way requires insane mental energy. I find my motivation to work on goes through peaks and valleys for sure.

I FEEL YOU ! I totally feel you. Totally... It's so techy and psychology-intensive. But gawd is it rewarding when it all works.

Decided to add a "key points" section in each project page. So not both options are available!

Yep. I think it's a lot better now. I do that in documentation as well. The quicker/shorter and to the point it is the better. Can't wait for that Alien game. Gud job .

HI ! I'm more of a level designer than an environment artist but since I've put "Maya" in my skills in my resume I felt like I had to show something at least. So here goes. The first few pieces in. You can find the concept art I'm referring to here, http://www.itsartmag.com/features/itsar…cept-art-18.jpg

I wrote a thing about it here: http://antoineladouceurld.weebly.com/blog

Lately I've tried just wearing my head phones and not listening to anything and its actually better than listening to stuff.

Except when the team starts having an argument, because that breaks my attention...

So maybe I should invest in some noise cancelling head phones

Ohh yeah been doing a lot too. Got myself a pair of those 2-3 years ago (http://en-ca.sennheiser.com/dj-headphones-…ereo-hd-25-1-ii). They never leave me. It's not noise canceling to the point you can't here anything, but it really does a nice job to cancel out most of the background noise and chatter. Plus... they sound freaking great and they don't over boost the bass which is nice (unlike the... beats headphones that I quite dislike).

    Hey thur Pete !

Right off the bat I think there's a good structure to your portfolio. I also really liked your Dev Diary. It's refreshing to see exactly who's behind the webpage/work. Kind of gives me ideas for mine .

Hum... you spelt professional --- "proffesional" in your Aliens : Isolation thumbnail. I would correct that right away.

One other thing is that I find some of your text to be a bit long. Certain explanations could be delivered through a bullet point form and have the same effect (but then again that's just me. I prefer quick concise explanations).

Kudos for putting up gameplay/showcase videos.

I have a pretty decent Internet speed (30mbs) and your blog page still took a bit of time to load. Do you have an option to limit the number posts that are shown at a time on page ? Just so it loads faster for the user. But still, I've seen way worst in terms of loading time.

    Good job !

    Hey Andy !

Looked over your stuff and I do have a few things to mention. I know using carbon made is considered as being standard in some ways, but I just find it very hard to "stand out" while using this site's template. One of the things you want to do as a professional putting himself out there is to establish a "personal brand" so people can easily identify who you are and also remember who you are. To be honest, I find carbonmade a little bland as there is so many people using it (and the same template with the same color).

Another thing considering your project presentation. I'd say... don't make me visit another environment artist's portfolio page (UDK mining). Make it as local as it can be. You really don't want a possible employer to go: "oh alright I'll check this other guy's page for more information on his project. Wow... that other guy is good let's hire him instead". It's a bit extreme but you know... Make your pages about you and what you can do essentially. I would detail this section with exactly what you did and a breakdown part. You can mention you worked with another guy that did the texturing, but ultimately if you label yourself as an environment artist you should do your own texturing (gives you credibility).

Also your site labels you as an environment artist and when I check your about section you're a technical artist with a programming background ? Just make sure that every skill you list you can demonstrate. If you know about "scripting tools to allow other designers and artists to build worlds easier." you should show exactly what you've made and have a section in your portfolio where you talk about this.

    Hope that could help !

Heyp ! Cool stuff on there, but I think your post would be better placed in "Services". This section is more to give and receive feedback.

How i hate such drums and the douchebags who play them. One of the few things that totally kill my zen. Ther's this annoying "samba"-band in my town who plays under my window all day long everytime when there is an event, which feels like at least once a month. No surprise a while ago they were assaulted by someone who lost his mind over this torture.

    Dude best answer ever hahaha.

can you explain what goes into it? Are there a lot of interacting layers?

It's one of those things where I start to worry the shader complexity is so large that it might actually be better to model it out in cases where you are fill rate limited.

Would totally love to know too. Impressive stuff still.

  • Weird UE4 problem... anybody seen this before ?

    • SuperDuperYeah
    • May 24, 2014 at 6:54 AM

Been working in UE4 for a bit. Got a Laptop a few weeks ago to work while I'm away from my main workstation in Vancouver. So the computer has a fairly new graphics card: Geforce GTX 880M... (I'll post my DxDiag if anybody wants to have a look at my configs). Been having this super weird jittering whenever I hover my mouse over some UI stuff (only when in Place and Edit Geo mode). All softwares and games behave normally though. I posted a bug report in the UE4 answer hub. Had a couple directive to follow from Epic's team... I just hope they haven't forgot about the problem.

Note that OBS (open broadcaster software) made the problem look a lot worse. It changed the windows color scheme to the Windows 7 basic one.

That's the link that I posted in my status update, but just realized I trashed the video... don't remember doing that... So I uploaded it again.

Did someone ever had this kind of problem/bug in another software or specifically in UE4 ?

**Checked the topics in Answer Hub and it seems someone else seems to have the same problem with the same graphics card.

Went on an Alien saga hike. Aliens (god was that a good one) + Alien 3 (not very good) + Alien: Resurrection (had potential at the start but... the script was so bad).
