I dunno. People have been angry about microtransactions and some DLC since the beginning. Back when horse armour was released in TES: Oblivion everyone was up in arms saying it's overpriced or should have been in the game from the start or patched in. Everyone just said, don't buy it and it'll stop. Now Bethesda is charging for mods.

There's been huge campaigns run to stop people from pre-ordering games and time after time people get burnt and are disappointed with their pre-orders. Mass Effect: Andromeda is probably the latest let down and I bet that had pre-orders through the roof.

I know this stuff with SW: BF2 and what's happened in other games like GTA: Online isn't great for players. But since TakeTwo is reporting that microtransactions make up half of their revenue I don't think players care and there's enough people paying for this stuff to make it worthwhile for publishers. https://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/3091…wos_revenue.php

They seriously changed the rate you get credits at the same time? I guess it still won't take as long but to most it will seem the issue is resolved and they'll forget about it and give EA their money anyway.

In any case all of this shouting and bitching will probably affect nothing. Everyone will still buy the game and EA will see some nice profits from it and the process will continue with the shareholders/suits demanding more ways to get players money in future titles. The vast majority of players do not care about this stuff.

I'm sure all of you have seen the shitstorm that's exploded all over the internet with SW:BF2's progression/microtransactions.

I'm not 100% sure of the tiny details on it all but some of it sounds like genuine concerns (~40 hours to unlock a single character for example) but the community has turned nasty and started threatening the devs.

    It's really sad to see.

Some really big names in there and it's a really sad list.

I've never understood why Maxis was closed though. The Sims has always sold amazingly well so it's not like they weren't making any money for EA. I guess they had a studio who would develop future titles cheaper than the guys who worked at Maxis?

Just now, Thrik said: Really enjoyed the first episode. :D And now anticipating the second. I also need to get back to Planet Earth II as I got distracted after a few episodes.

The second aired last Sunday so it should be on iPlayer now! Still need to watch it myself, waiting for the girlfriend to have a night off work.

I've been listening to the soundtrack by Hans Zimmer. It's so good!

17 minutes ago, Thrik said: I am so disappointed. I've always enjoyed Kevin Spacey's work and absolutely loved House of Cards. I admit that at first my bias was towards Spacey and thinking it was just some people wanting headlines — the same trap that I guess many victims of powerful people fall into — but as with other high-profile individuals recently the accusations have been consistent, numerous, and from people with their own successful show business careers who have no reason to make this stuff up.

So basically it seems pretty beyond doubt that Spacey has assaulted these people, and yet how does that leave my enjoyment of his films and shows, and my intention to enjoy rewatching them again in the future? It's the whole separation of artist and art thing I suppose. At what point do you draw the line? Is it possible or moral to enjoy the work of a scumbag? Personally I refuse to listen to any Chris Brown music even though a lot of it is quite good, because he's an abusive violent bastard. But I find it hard to apply this same strictness to what seems to be an endlessly increasing circle of ethically compromised celebrities and their films/music/tv shows/games. Jeez.

I feel much the same with Lost Prophets. I grew up loving their music, and they're still in my top 10 on Last.fm I listened to them that much in my teenage years. Then it came out that the lead singer (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ian_Watkins_(Lostprophets) for those of you out of the loop) was a child rapist and I can't bring myself to listen to them anymore.

Yeah I did and it was alright. Though in MP3 it felt more like a cover shooter and you just used bullet time to pop up and headshot some guy. You died too easily if you were just diving about the place like you did in MP1.

I still think I prefer the first one since it's more difficult and is really dark and gritty. I didn't play MP2 until a few years ago either so I guess I missed the hype with it. Still, it's an awesome game!

Saw this last night when I got home. Really sucks for the studio, hope everyone there manages to get relocated within EA or find a new home in the industry.

Loved Dead Space and just saw they made Return of the King and Future Cop: LAPD too! Loved those games as a kid!
