i guess the biology professor holds merit since this falls within his field. still, we've found organisms that are based on arsenic and not carbon, so i don't think we're far off.

No we haven't. We found some extremophile that had the ability to substitute arsenic for phosphorus. If I recall correctly, it was done under a lab experiment. I personally don't bother with these pop-science magazines for the simple reason they're pop-science magazines. Reporters don't really give a damn about getting the facts, they just want sensational headlines to garner attention from as many people as they can. Most don't look any further than the article and leave with a feeling they've learned something when they've probably just been mislead.

The frequency of these NASA reports of possible ET life clipped to the press releases seem to be increasing lately... Money problems perhaps?

I would err on the side of caution, Daan. We've had similar claims made in the past turning out to be nothing to get excited about.

Like some meteors from Mars on Earth, it's entirely possible that a meteor from some time ago hit our planet, launching a chunk out of it's atmosphere (carrying some bacteria along with it) where it's been orbiting the sun for no one knows how long and it finally re-entered Earth's atmosphere.

This would explain a. the bacteria fossil (if that's what it is) and b. why it looks similar to what's already found on Earth. There's a crap load of bacteria on this planet, to find something different from the rest is no surprise.

Nope, I'm using the vegetation shader in CE2 with alphatest as the blend mode. If any overdraw is occurring, I haven't spotted it.

Desert environment looks spot on, really like. That's one of the reasons I like the previous games, I've always been attracted to that kind of terrain.

only problem with prooptimiser is you need to get it in max first. and when you have a few million triangles in a single object, max shits itself to the verge of rectal prolapse

Haha, I've never had much trouble with a mesh that has 5 million+ tris but my comp has 8gigors of ram so maybe that's why?

I think you missed the detail that I can't get passed the Login screen ... you know, the first menu you see when you start the game.

Yes, my mistake. This happened to me once before but it was "solved" through no effort of my own.

http://uk.pc.ign.com/articles/115/1153248p1.htmlYou need user feedback to realize PC players like options? Half the people I see talking about the demo are launching it through a .bat file to get all those launch options peris posted in.

    *sigh*

That interview doesn't make me feel good. Crysis allowed for each setting to be tweak as needed, allowing the user to find the right balance between performance and visuals. Now they dumb it down and force us to pick between three settings. Not every one wants to sacrifice performance for better visuals and vice-versa. PC gamers are notorious for hacking a game to suite their needs, releasing a multiplayer demo that gives us basically zero options for setting up the game less than a month from release isn't the proper way to get feedback.

I fear that consolitis has infected Crysis 2

I still think the demo's fun though, I just pray that the actual game doesn't confirm my fears.

Is it just the replay or does everyone but me have zero recoil?

Noticed the same thing, pretty sure it's the replay. Or they have aim assist on (who the flip gave the OK on that decision [Blocked Image: https://migrationtest.mapcore.org/public/style_emoticons/default/mapcore_smilies/emot_shakehead.gif] )

This is as far as I can get in the demo right now, and that's just the login screen![Blocked Image: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3688889/crysis-it_just_works.png]

It has been like that for DAYS...

Only a few people have been able to fix that problem by tinkering with the Windows Firewall... but others like myself who do not use Windows Firewall at all, are screwed.

Have you tried canceling your server search before joining? That works for me sometimes. One thing I'll do is click on a server and hit the 'info' button near the bottom of the screen. If you can see the players in the server, you'll probably be able to connect. If you can't view the info, you're most likely going to get a similar error.

Maybe they use armor mode and you don't?

I'm usually the person who uses armor mode the most on my team (2nd unlock of armor mode so it's even stronger) so I don't know what it is.

I don't know if it's lag from the servers I'm playing on but it seems like I'm shooting people square in the face for 2 or 3 seconds straight, then they start firing back and I get insta-killed. Needless to say, very annoying.

I've noticed that sometimes when I try and connect to a server, either I'll get the 'server full' message, which I assume to be true, or I get a 'lost connection to server' type message. Sometimes this keeps happening to the point I just exit the demo and wait a few hours. One thing that seems to work is to make sure you cancel your search for servers before trying to join a server.

For some reason though, every North American server I join never starts the game, regardless if 12 players are in or not. I've always had to play on a euro one...

I like it, plays great on Hardcore settings (my computer has the works) and looks pretty good (presumably not as good as the campaign will.) I'm not sure how often I'll play it when I buy the game as I'm excited for the single player portion as well as trying to dissect how Crytek made all their assets. Let's not forget Sandbox 3, too.

I can't get passed the F*CKING login screen. Creating an account results in an endless loop animation of 'Creating Account'...

EDIT: Finally went through, guess their servers are getting swamped.

EDIT: Guessing the server's located in France, only getting a little over 300kb/s No matter, was in the middle of texturing a piece
