    Yay for rushed releashes.

Other things I've noticed couple new property windows are different, theres a couple new buttons on the top bar, there are lots of new entities (including a prop_vehicle_drivable) and a dropdown box appears as you type in entities.

And yeah, everything seems bodeged tbh.

From what I've read DX10 completely or near enough re-writes how the GPU works with the CPU. I in no way am a programmer and everything I'm saying is just what I've gathered. I don't know if these optimizations actually need new hardware (new GPUS) or OS compatibility (Vista) but all I know is it allows more to be processed by the GPU without CPU interval.

    Quote from clayman

yeah, and the fact that we are talking about VISTA so it lowers the bars anyway, there we go..

    Yeah, I already said that.

Also, I just read the following link and it shows a performance benchmark of GoW for DX9 and DX10, both on Vista. There is pretty much no graphical improvement in DX10 but there is a rather large loss for frame rate.

Which is weird because the main thing about DX10 is that its optimized better, its not that it has new technologies just that its been completely re-written to allow it to do more faster.

    So now I'm really confused.

Or OpenGL 2.0 because it's in fact better optimized than DX9 (needs less calls for operations) and it's platform-independent. The OGL 3.0 specs are coming out soon, and with it, cards that support 3.0.

Nice. Hopefully that may bring OpenGL back into action, would be nice.

At the moment DX10 is just being used because of its optimizations, so yes the same stuff is being displayed on screen but because of DX10 its displayed more optimized. Running Crysis on DX10 on XP would run much worse that running it on Vista (because on XP its just "fake DX10", so to speak).

That being said, Vista being a complete whore of resources completely off-sets the whole point of DX10 (being incredibly well optimized) so in the end, you'll probs be better off with DX9.

    1.) Unrealed.exe -nogamma

Thanks for that, why does it do that anyway?

    Quote from aevirex

2.) buggy as in Unreal2 Unrealed? Then yes ofc, but UT2004's Unrealed is quite stable unless you link shaders to itself, move subtracted verteces on (subtraced) verteces, cut sheets, ... No sane person would need that though (jk )

It was buggy for me, both at home and at college (I put off using it till I had to, hammer (and now sandbox) all the way tbh). I just didn't feel, right, I can't explain or remember as it was a while ago.

3.) You can shift-right click (iirc) a off grid vertex to get in on the grid again...)

Thanks again , I tried turning off snap to grid and lining them up as close as possible (some sort of invisible grid appears so I might as well line up the invisible grid to the visible)

4.) There is no lighting preview, its the final lighting.

    Same thing

I will move over to UnrealEd soon, with the release of UT3 and a better computer as long as it isn't as balls as it was for me before.

    Back on topic:

    erm yeah, totally awesome cool!

Goddamn, UnrealED looks a lot easier to use then Hammer.

I've found it to horrible, its incredibly buggy and even decides to change your gamma settings on your desktop, at least the last version did. Also I hate the red builder brush thingy, and the way that things sometimes come off the grid.

I do like the lighting preview though.

This is an incredibly well optimized engine, I can play it on 1280x1024 will decent settings, thats more than the orange box I tell you.

That being said, without AA on, it looks much worse then Orange Box without AA on.

I also thought that the guns look amazing, but the environment, although not lacking in polys, could deffo have better textures.

I'll play again to refresh my memory.

i play spy mostly, stabbing pretty much everyone. my best round i got 11 kills while doing nearly 2000 damage. it's a bit bad that some of the classes are as slow as they are, but then again, i dont play them... much.

None of those were me though for I was steadily looking out for you.
