I really, really like this. I haven’t felt this about a game in a long time. So many things have caused me just to coo and giggle at the monitor - especially the (supposedly) little things like the kill shots, statistics, voices and nemesis system. It’s bares only a marginal semblance to TFC, but I’m going to state boldly after a mere 3 hours play that this seems better and I hope Portal fills the “I must jump about like a fool” void.

My knee-jerk reaction is that the Heavy is overpowered though, it cuts through the Soldiers of TF2 faster than the Scouts of TFC and everyone knows what a great synergy they have with Medics.

That's what the Sudden Death thing is about. Winner gets lowered respawntimers, iirc. But SD usually end up as stalemate anyways, since some shmuck camps to days end.

Just had a hilarious sudden death where an enemy solider and I took each other out by both firing rockets and jumping into the other persons.

TF2 is pretty fun. Lots of teamwork, i had a round where we had 3 medics and 3 heavy's and we dominated the whole server

And not one enemy sniper to counter?

I think the heavy's are very easy to take down. Either the sniper or the spy can easily take them down in 1 shot. not to mention they are the biggest target.

If anything then I think the Scout is overpowered. That shotgun is fucking nasty up close. I'd have multiple situations where there were like 3 enemies trying to get me, and I'd eventually circle-strafe-jump and shoot enough to actually get them all, and in a lot of cases these were Heavys

But its probably a bit too early to tell, should be said that the people I played against the first time were really horrible

I sorta felt this way too. Also, the Pyro could use a *slight* bit extra length on his flame thrower.

Other than that, pretty much awesome. Really brings back the chaotic fun of TFC, just refined and tightened up a bit.

On Attack/Defend maps the chance of you getting a Spy behind a Heavy or a Sniper to land a charged shot before the damage is already done is highly unlikely. They're also the most likely to be healed and charged with invincibility. And while it's possible to prance around as a scout to great effect, at least that takes more than holding MOUSE1 and pointing vaguely in the direction of the enemy.

I think he Pyro feels weak because he is essentially designed to be a short range version of the Heavy, but the Heavy is effective at all distances anyway so he doesn't need some slightly faster, short ranged bastard child.

But like I said this is all knee-jerk and just comparing it to the Heavy of TFC. We'll see.

It's so easy to kill a heavy as a spy, no mather the situation.

Disguise yourself as an enemy engineer for example, then run to the frontline. Just before you reach the enemy, cloack yourself and run passed the enemy. Once you are behind them search a corner where you can uncloack yourself without being noticed. There you can quickly destroy all turrets. After that you can easily backstab the enemy. I prefer to backstab the medic first, who usely is behind the heavy, since the heavy is to busy shooting he won't notice the dead of the medic and you can quickly backstab him too. If you get noticed, quickly cloack yourself again and look for a place to disguise yourself again (in an other class preferably).

If you are low on health just call for a medic, if you are disguised the enemy medic will heal you.

(it's really funny to backstab him just after he healed you haha).

Hmm sorry I thought you said it was highly unlikely to get a spy behind a heavy and kill him.

I gotta say playing Scout is more fun that I expected! Especially on 2fort! You can quickly get up behind them and smack them with the bat

I was doing lots of this last night. I haven't laughed out loud so much playing a multiplayer game for as long as I can remember. Even the purile "Huh huh huh you got pwnd" samples after dishing out bat to head action made me laugh, and I normally hate that leet BS.

    Great game. Worthy successor.

A superb game in almost every way.

Screenshots and even videos (unless HD) really don't do the graphics justice; there's so much fine detail and cartoony texture to everything that it's just a constant treat for the eyes.

The gameplay gives me that feeling I experienced while playing TFC, but different enough to feel like something fresh and that I can spend a lot of time with. What I've seen so far is great, although it's clear that a lot of TFC fans will have to rethink what class they like most and such since a lot has fundamentally changes. Medic as an all-purpose mega-class? More like not anymore.

If anyone's bothered (nobody who's got the beta will be interested), I recorded and YouTube'd my first moments of the game. I basically just try out every class, weapon and utility in sequential order, on a live server so there's plenty of gameplay to watch too. Could be interesting if you're stoked for the game but can't play until next month or something, or you want to show someone what it's all about.

TF2 so far is extremely awesome. It's such a joy to play. Sextastic.

I enjoy the scout class the best.

No problem. I should aplogise for the dickish tone of my response, I had to go and didn't read it back first

Anyhoo! It's probably all fine and I should just learn to kill them and stop complaining. I usually play Engineer but I've definately had the most fun so far as a Solider. Got 8 kills straight assaulting a control point with a Medic buddy, and was making very excited sounds at the PC before I forced myself to stop.

i play spy mostly, stabbing pretty much everyone. my best round i got 11 kills while doing nearly 2000 damage. it's a bit bad that some of the classes are as slow as they are, but then again, i dont play them... much.

Thanks for that video Thrik. It looks like it has potential to give me some great moments and I think I can justify shelling out however many bucks for it.

If anyone cares to answer, I am curious about some features from other Source mods:

    1. Optional friendly fire?

    2. Microphone support?

    3. As the heavy, does the minigun automatically come down when you fire, or do you have to shoulder it as in Day of Defeat?

    4. Do players' names come up when you hover your crosshair on them? More specifically, if I'm a spy in disguise, can someone look at me for a few seconds and see "enemy?"
