Small update on the forest map i've been working on, been optimising for the past week or so and just started on the visuals again. I've been exploring the night setting a bit more playing with placing fires around the map to help guide the player a little better and adding more volumetric fog in areas. You might notice that the river is also now complete. I just need to do some more detailing on the riverside itself.[Blocked Image: http://www.littlelostpoly.co.uk/PVT/Misc/De_forest/de_forest_001e_compile0000.jpg]

i really digg the first screenshot. i demand more gameplay like screenshots. those spectator screenshots are nice but what the player will actually see is important too

create a box -> split the top face in the middle and push up the new edge. that's a basic house.

Regardless of how many clicks, will or will you not end up with 6 different brushes for the house in source? Because if you do, and if you will have to modify it later on, youll lose more time adjusting it in source than in Unreal.

i can build a simple house with 1 brush in source.

dont use vertexlight materials on brush/world geometry.

So youre saying that having to construct a single room of 6 seperate brushes is "much smarter and faster" ?

well then create a house from outside with one box in unreal!

man this argument fails so heavily

carving a room is 1 click in unreal

making a house from the outside is (close to) 1 click in source

you know that substractive vs. additive geometry thing

wtf is going on here right now?

i agree that the hole in the house is either too big or needs some "pillars" because the roof seems being untouched. the roof would be too heavy for being hold up there with such a big hole underneath.

maybe working out a basic layout with developer textures might help you to not screw detailed geometry through those problems.

    be gentle guys!

hammer editor can export DXF format which is supported by Maya. I don't know what Max and XSI give about DXF but i am sure it is supported in those packages as well.

Yeah it's waaay better to browser .jpg files, with .raw, I only get a small tumbnail in the "Open" tab in PS, makes it kinda hard to find all the goodies.

you can either use Adobe bridge (there is this 'browse' thing) or acdsee. though if you want to make it jpeg for smaller size: download the package and batch convert on your own D:

[Blocked Image: http://xs217.xs.to/xs217/07311/sf_dustywall.jpg]The bricks came out very wierd... any tips?

    1. the saturation of the bricks is much to high compared to the wall

    2. the color temperature of the bricks isn't matching the wall. either make it darker and more blue or you colorbalance the wall to red and yellow and increase the saturation. http://www.thomashess.net/photoset.jpg on the right you can see such a wall you tried to make. as you can see the brick is nearly having the same color as the wall itself!

    3. the dirt you added on the ground has to be darker than the wall. http://www.thomashess.net/photoset.jpg in the middle you can find an example.

    4. the dirt should not cover the brick structure! dirt is a thin film located on a strcutured surface. so the structure doesnt get lost. try some blending modes to find good settings
