I just played the game on XBOX 360 last Saturday at a videogame festival in Paris.
There was a communication guy from Bethesda at the stand to answer people's questions and especially, to guide you through the demo
. I played a bit with his nerves and this was actually pretty funny
.
The first thing i noticed is the emptiness of the universe, i don't know if it was because i played an unfinished demo or not. But it's basically like Oblivion : an environment about the same size with some monsters scattered around. Sometimes you stumble upon a wrecked city with 2 or 3 dragoon ants to make it a challenge, i asked if it's possible to scavenge items from these places, apparently you can, but i didn't found anything.. Everything looked really generic.
Secondly i found the combat parts really deceiving, the game is a FPS, but compared to STALKER to take an exemple
, a really bad FPS. Once again, it's oblivion with a gun; Including the AI. You got action points you can use whenever you want to shoot accurately at your enemies, but there's not any real tactical aspect in that, It's more like a powerup you can choose to use or not.
I visited megaton, insulted the sheriff, saw a brahmin, killed a bunch of dogs and molerats. Then i wanted to see how far i could go if i was walking straight forward, the guy told me there's about 40 minutes to walk from one point of the map to another, so i gave up. I saw a little children wandering and i asked : "Can i kill that kid ?" "Yeah go for it" I tried to get an accurate shot in his groin but the option wasn't there anymore, so i shot him into the head. Nothing happened, the kid just ran away from me.
I was looking for items in a city, but didn't found anything, so i started to look at texture bugs, collision problems, holes in the geometry of the environment and stuff like that
. Once the communication guy saw it, he told me : "Alright you played enough, there's some people waiting to try" ![]()
That was my Fallout3 adventure. Sorry to deceive you guys, honestly; i'm actually not worried about the fact that FALLOUT3 will be a good sequel, but the fact that it will be not a good game at all. ![]()
But yeah, i didn't saw any real RPG parts, quests, investigations etc, that's what was missing. Hopefully, the game will be better than what i saw.
@2D chris, I have to agree with you to a large extent, but to make a game to please nerds, you need to be a nerd yourself ![]()
