  • Warhammer 40K MMOG? Fuck yeah!

    • Bluestrike
    • March 7, 2007 at 7:58 AM

There are screenshots from WH40k already?

Anyway I'm looking forward to W.A.R. (Warhammer online) because Mythic is doing it.

I loved the DAOC RVR (pvp) and they have the expirience to make it better.

Tried the WOW beta but it was not my kind of game and it brought nothing new anyway.

I think WOW's sucess has more to do with th Warcraft and Blizzard name then being a good MMO, wich is fine since it brought 'fresh meat' to the market

lol it feels like last generation gameplay when used to Supreme commander, first thing I tried to do was zoom out but it started at its highest zoom already lol.

Also miss the easy waypoints etc :/

Oh well might still try it for the Singleplay.

can cheat easy by using a brick texture as a texturelight to find it, they would have to recompile the map with the default rad file

Why not a envoirement light (using it instead of the 1 normal light),

Place a light as a sun with a high value should give almost thhe same effect anyway

Its always nice if a modeler can skin too, but yeah usually the skin is done by someone else. Altough the more people in a line to finish something the slower it goes in mod delevopment

  • Scott Miller: Steam should not be a part of valve

    • Bluestrike
    • November 30, 2006 at 10:41 PM

Wel steam is a bit cheaper for me then going to the store, but not that much as predicted by game magazines for online distributions.

As for Valve cutting of steam when they get in trouble developing a game,

I think it would probly work the other way, steam would feed valve's development and cutting that off just makes things worse :P

Besides that, who owns Valve? and there are more people who own a few different bisness.

I asume the contracts deal with how games are advertised on the front page of steam, and it seems locgic that new titles get the most attention.

I'm pretty confident that there are all sorts of legal bounds or other developers would be weary about steam.

Oh well only time will tell but I think its a save bet that steam will exist longer then Valve as a developer and that a split is hanging in the air if steam keeps growing.

  • Rock 24 - Single Player Half Life 2 Mod

    • November 20, 2006 at 5:51 PM

    Very nice mod,

I liked the envoirements feel and the neat events, just the brushwork itself was not that streamlined and how textures ofted didn't match.

    Some anoyances:

    - Had to do the boat part 3 times because the first 2 times it didn;t seem to happen as it was intended. (died in explosion and died in water)

-Got stuck a few fimes because there was a double door we had to go trough and I only checked one half and it didn't open.

2nd stuck with the breaking pipe because I never saw the locked npc,

    he should call the player.

But its still better then what I'm doing with my own singleplayer because my imagination sucks for the neat traps and events :P

  • Tom Clancy games...License or Original IP?

    • Bluestrike
    • November 20, 2006 at 5:38 PM

Yeah the book was before The R6 game, I have quite a few of Clancy's books but I don't buy them anymore because the last ones were a bit to unrealistic (watch out here comes the US you all die we don't get a scratch and a religioes speech taking 10 pages was a bit to much for me)

Nah I like Eric L Harry's WW3 and other books and mcNabs books far more altough Clancy's OP center series is still enjoyable.

redstom also made a rtsish game and like evert said Clancy started Red Storm and wrote the story's for the games in the beginning, I have no clue if hes still with redstorm and doing anything there

i wonder how many suckers have preorderd this game 10 years ago ^^ i know someone who pre-orderd team fortress 2 rigth after hl1 came out (and it had those screenshots in the preview button in the main menu) and that store doesnt even exist anymore (so the money is gone !!! =) )

Never preordered anything, but they charge you right away?

Woulkd seem to me that its just reserving youre copy.

I knew someone from my TFC clan who preordered TF2 too

  • Pirating Games

    • Bluestrike
    • August 28, 2006 at 7:49 PM

There has been a time I pirated no game.

But yeah I got some illegal games, most of them have/had no demo, and I only finished a few of them/played them longer then a few hours/days,

and in most cases I would not have bought them anyway if I didn't had acces to the pirated version, so no real loss for the mayority of the developers behind it.

For the ones I did like there are 3 scenario's.

    - I go buy the game because I enjoyed it that much and the illegal version might not have sertain things that the retail has.

    - I will probebly buy the sequel (unless the demo tells me otherwise )

    - Sometimes I just get lazy and nothing happens.

    Why I downloaded the games?

    - To lazy to go to the store.

    - Store probebly would not have it for another week while the dowload was right in front of me :)

    - Just to check out the hype.

A service like Steam greatly decreases the chance I download a game for that platform illigaly. (since it handles most of the reasons why I downloaded a illegal version anyway)

I got a bit of music but no real loss for the owners either, before that I never bought music either and well I mostly have them because I like the songs but I can't remeber the last time I listened to them, its months ago I just put up my favorite radio station that also sends over the internet now

So my conclusion, Pirated stuf is bad, but in alot of cases the product would not have been bought anyway the nr1 reason being the lack of fund. So if you make quality you have a bigger chance for legal purshases

Custom sprites work since you can tell in the hammer worldspawn what material to use for the sprites. Sybex had it working for his map.
