First Halo and Reach were my favorites. In fact, I was very surprised at how much I liked reach after being disappointed with Halo 2, 3 and ODST.

Meanwhile, anyone watching the Forward Unto Dawn web series? you can see it free on Youtube. It may not be the best acting in the world, but I actually am starting to like it, plus it's FREE. Nice.

Just watched them all in one go, not bad actually, especially the last one.

Actually feeling pretty good about my Classic Ironman playthrough, and that's even with having lost 4 countries in the council, and just losing one of my colonel snipers and support soldiers. Still haven't taken on the alien base, trying to get an all colonel squad before I do that, but I've noticed that it just naturally starts throwing the tougher enemies at you over time. Was worried that they'd just tied enemy types to certain research breakthroughs, but it seems like there's a steady progression over time, and that you only have so much time before they start throwing the really tough stuff at you.

Really love what I've played so far of Dishonored, but XCOM just has the craziest pull on me. Can't stop thinking about it at the moment.

Finally got through the first assassination in Dishonored tho, and on my way to the Golden Cat. I can see what everybody is on about in terms of replay value. In the first mission alone I could spot so many different ways of tackling situations. Also, really dig the feature where you'll sorta slide underneath objects when you're crouched, makes it feel so fluid and cool when you're trying to sneak up on somebody.

Playing Halo 3 or Reach on Legendary showcases some of the best AI in the business. Some of the best fun I've had with a shooter to date come from those games, plus they're also terrific co-op games.

Anyway, I know it's popular to hate on the Halo games, but they're solid craftsmanship~

Not terribly excited about this one to be honest, even though I generally love the Halo games (Legendary difficulty lives up to it's name).

I'll still play it, but I've yet to see anything to make me really excited about this one.

Yeah, hopefully KFS is hanging in there. Sucks that this has become common news, but at least the Lightbox president sounds like a good guy. There are good and bad ways of handling this kind of awful crap, and it sounds like they're doing things right. Hell, not too long ago, OnLive had their entire mess go down, where people didn't get severance pay or notified in a respectful manner. At least Lightbox sounds like it's being run with respect for their employees, even in a shitty situation such as this.

How are you all so good at this game, playing on Classic and all that? I'm playing on Normal and the bodies keep stacking up. I spent all my money on new recruits, which then get slaughtered on first contact with badguys

Patience, caution, and considering every option you have. Also, get Carapace armor and laser rifles ASAP, it really helps keeping your squad alive.

Also, some pretty good tips. Learned most of it the hard way tho

Playing Classic Ironman keeps reminding me of Spiers' speech from Band of Brothers:

Shit's so nerve wrecking that I started feeling really unwell while playing the other day, couldn't bear losing more of my main crew. It's amazing.

In the UK it was the 2nd best selling game of the week (only behind Fifa 13). It's got some pretty hefty marketing tho, I bet it could sell pretty decently in the US, even if it might be a slightly weird looking game on the surface. http://www.eurogamer...spot-by-fifa-13

However I bet their break even numbers must be pretty high. Seems like a project that's been in development for quite a while, and it's got Bethesda showing their marketing muscle. Wouldn't surprise me if they need to sell at least 2 million copies to break even, but I guess you could always count this as franchise building if it doesn't hit that.

Anyway, started playing it yesterday. Really dig most things about this game, but I can't help feeling that I'd be much more thrilled about it if it had come out in August or September when there was a bit more of a lull in releases. Right now I'm constantly thinking of XCOM while I'm playing this, much rather wanting to go back to that. It's got loads of elements that I really love tho, feels like a modern take on Thief, amazing atmosphere and rich and interesting environment to explore. Figure you just need to get far enough for it to really grab you tho~

Finished it yesterday as well, on Normal difficulty. Pretty much a perfect reboot of the original, only thing that annoyed me was the end game stuff felt a bit weak compared to the original.

    Quote

Assaulting the main alien ship instead of travelling to their base on Mars felt slightly weak by comparison. Even though it took me around 25 hours, then it felt like the last 5 hours escalated a bit too quickly, and I honestly wouldn't have minded it being at least 10 hours longer. But again, played it on Normal, so that's not really a fair complaint, and I figure it's gonna take way longer on Classic. Also a really cool nod to the Gollop brothers, plus the achievement you get from building the facility.

Started playing Classic Ironman, failed the first mission the first time, which forces you to redo it Love it though, every single thing you do, in a mission or in the base, is just amplified in intensity. Generally didn't load save games in the Normal playthrough, except in the too regular cases where I had switched to a pistol with a sniper for Overwatch, and then forgot to the switch to the sniper rifle when I had the chance, but being stuck with your choices just makes you consider your options a bit more before you execute something. Anyway, Ironman mode fucking rocks~

Definitely my game of the year so far~

Sniper with Squadsight and Archangel Armor is too good. Just fly up high, and kill everything that dare to get in your squads line of sight.

It's weird, was unlocked on Steam at work, but at home it isn't available yet. We run through a UK proxy, but that's still Europe.

Oh well, played it for a couple of hours, totally loving it. It might be a bit rough around the edges, but overall it's just a joy to see that it just emphasises what made the original a classic, and makes it much more exciting. Having your crew get more experienced and acquire unique sets of skills, have rookies do a suicide run and get out unscathed as heroes, have nerve wrecking standoffs with your core go-to guy sacrificing himself in order to save the rest of the squad. It's so amazing, I drew a large crowd when playing it today, and had people cheering like mad. So good.

I will say that it even a couple hours in, it still feels like a tutorial, which feels a bit annoying since most things are super intuitive anyway. I'll probably start a new game at home with the tutorial turned off, seems that people that's played the original don't really need it, or at least can figure out most of the changes by themselves. Also considering playing it in Iron man mode, still haven't loaded a save game yet anyway, though that will probably change at some point

Anyway, can't wait to play it some more tomorrow~~

Really a shame that this is coming out the same day as XCOM. I'm getting both, but if only it'd been released a week earlier I'd have enough time to get through it before XCOM~~

Looks great tho, can't wait to play this too~
