I think they are hitting the traditional RA style very well!

Actually, looking back, the art style does seem pretty similar to RA2. I guess I just want to go back to the more traditional C&C style.

while ill absolutely give the game a try im pretty sure ill be in the boat that dislikes the art direction and new theme of the game. crazy ww2/modern was where it was at. fuck the future.

have there been any pics of the gui yet? id be interested in seeing that. i've always thought that cnc could use a formation feature, i think it was the game rise of nations or something that let you make really awesome formations automatically based on class type, letting you pick the shape.

Didn't you see the formation features in C&C3?

I started playing the Beta yesterday, and I'm not impressed so far. Maybe it's because the beta is locked to "medium" gfx settings, or maybe its because it is still a beta, but so far is not at the same level as Tiberium Wars (in my opinion).

I'm still getting used to the gameplay, so i can't comment on that yet.

Tiberium Wars was excellent so I am a bit sceptical it'll hit the same level based on everything I've seen so far, particularly with there seeming to be a lot more stuff that looks like it belongs in the tiberium universe (thus reducing the division between the series). Even the art seems to have less fidelity, including on high.

no, i didn't. though to be honest i hated the game and played very little of it.

Oh. Well, those and the path/patrol features were good. They'll almost certainly make an improved appearance in RA3.

Can't imagine why you hated C&C3, though. It was a superb realisation of the classic C&C formula in a modern context, and I doubt RA3 will be much different. C&C3 got great ratings so it's even more likely RA3 will follow in its footsteps.

Really? I really didn't enjoy C&C3 too much... I guess its because I loved the originals so much and nostalgia prevented me from enjoying it...

i severely disliked the new resource gathering stuff, the graphics were pretty odd, it really changed the game making it 3d and i almost feel that it was unnecessary but i guess it was due to be the next step in evolution. i didnt really like any of the units, and i especially hated the three nationalities.

I enjoyed CnC3 well enough. I played through the entire game and was generally satisfied. Some of the graphics were odd in places (shadows? maybe that was just me) but it did a good job to keep the campiness of CnC and some of that classic style and modernize it.

If they do as much with RA3 and make parts more extreme (like the hilarious videos, Tim Curry? awesome) than I'll be happy.

I agree to an earlier comment that the Tesla coils should be taller a la RA2, the mech suit guys I dont really have a problem with. Seems like they're just the Tesla Troopers in heavier, bulkier suits

What was different about the resource gathering? It's been a while since I last played C&C1 so I genuinely can't remember.

As far as I can remember, resource gathering in C&C3 is exactly the same as in the original: Tiberium.

Are you sure we're talking about the same game, and that you're not confusing 2008's C&C3 with 2003's C&C: Generals? While Generals was quite different to other C&C games, C&C3 was a total throwback with all the FMV cutscenes and everything.

I ask because your earlier criticisms seem odd, particularly "I especially hated the three nationalities" (it's mostly GDI vs NOD, just like the original C&C). And C&C3 does use harvesters; skip to 1:00 to see one in action:

I don't recall any helicopters being used for resource gathering at all (although I believe the USA in C&C: Generals used a chopper).

Yeah, I remember having a Helicopter as a method of resource gathering for the US in Generals.
