it's actually a moon base. the story goes that in the mid 70s, both the USSR and USA sent out two teams to declare the land theirs. however, since there was only one apparent landing spot, one of the teams had their rocket destroyed post landing. now that they have taken equal parts of the territory, a battle will be waged to see who can capture the enemy's land first and thus be the only team to get home.

    sounds plausible, yeah?

    Ah, right.

The biggest problems with the current implementation of the planet are:

    • [*:1f0bcl8r]It needs to look more faded, similarly to how when you see the moon in daylight on earth it's got a very blue tone.
[*:1f0bcl8r]The dark/shaded areas shouldn't actually visible at all; instead, the colour of the sky should show. This is due to the unique way lighting works in space and is then viewed through the atmosphere.
[*:1f0bcl8r]The earth must appear behind the clouds in the sky box.

Check out these photos for examples of my first two points:

Pretty tricky things to think about fixing.

Great stuff SKDR, it's coming along very nicely. Love the composition of the scene in the first screen, the planet looks believable now. I love the Blue Cafeteria too. You've done a nice job giving the different areas a distinct purpose.

Only crit is I think the buildings in the final pic look a bit primitive, I think the brushwork could be more interesting though retain the geometric, industrial look of the Blues.

i like the planets posotion too, the only thing that looks a bit unusual for me are those vents on the wooden building... everything else: very good job. looking forward to play it

    Thanks for the comments!

I'm still trying to get the fog look right. Some shots might look saturated because of the heavy fog.

I don't get it... This map doesn't take place on Earth? Is that right?

The angle is different so I don't think he ripped the brushwork directly from the map, more a case of using the texture's as they are intended.

This map looks great, love the coloring.

I think the planet Earth just looks a bit too big. Also is it a 3d skybox sphere/model or painted on the 2d skybox?

It was a model, now painted to the skybox.
