Posting incase someone havent seen this yet.
It looks pretty good overally, the atmosphere is on par with the original but there's a lot of stiffnes and glitches everywhere. Objects poping up, funky animation transitions, cliche dialogues (i just hope that the game is not filled with such dialogues, original mafia had a good beliveable script, please dont mess this up kthx) etc and they break the overall image for me unfortunately. The release is set to be Q4 2009, here's hoping they will fix atleast a bit of these problems.

There are ofcourse other things that confuse me, especially dumbed-down-looking car driving and regenerating health.

Nooo... Not regenerating health... God damn Halo1 that started it all.

even if i halo didn't do it, another game would do it.. it's one of those inevitable things.

Looking pretty good, glad they got rid of the excessive bloom. I think the pavements are missing fine details though, they look a little too clean and could benefit from some trash on the ground/road. I'm hoping the cutscenes are going to be as good as the original, since the cinematics were one of the best aspects of the first game, excellent dialogue, voice acting and animation and direction, still haven't played a game with cutscenes as good as Mafia's.
I think the six million dollar question here is do we get chased by the police again if we run through a red light, that was so damn annoying!
[edit]Oh and the footage has to be from the Xbox360, due to all the stuff popping up and the fact that Gametrailers usually lick's Microsofts butt
I'm betting the PC footage will be a lot prettier. -
I don't like the offset camera. It's pointless, worse than the old camera and feels like a cheap ploy to attract the Gears/Resident Evil crowd. I guess third person shoulder camera's the norm now, can't wait for it in Max Payne 3...
Sidenote: The first Halo didn't have regenerating health. That started in Halo 2, after they got the idea from Call of Duty.

I think the offset camera is fine. It's an improvement on the overhead camera in almost every way.
Also, Halo had a hybrid health system consisting of regenerating armor and HP after your armor is down. Halo 2 just simplified the system and removed health altogether. CoD 1 also didn't have regen health and Halo most certainly didn't get the idea from it.

That's not right. The original Halo had both health and a recharging shield, whereas in Halo 2 they basically merged them into one. And even if you only count Halo 2's implementation as the first 'real' use of recharging health, Halo 2 pre-dated Call of Duty 2 — the first CoD game to have recharging health — by almost a year.

Edit: Doh, beaten by the superb Erratic. That's what I get for opening threads then using the toilet before reading them!

But... you can hardly see anything to the left side. It's like playing with half of a screen.
If it's just for interiors, which seems to be the case, should be fine I think. But, yeah I definitely wouldn't want a tight perspective all the time in this game, that would just be shit.
But for aiming and in tight quarters, it's always better. -
These shots are straight outta ps3 afaik.

awesome, I want it, NOW !

you might be on to something here ...

honestly it looks so so. it just reminds me of GTA in the 1930s. GOTY? hardly.

Original mafia trailer wouldn't interest you as well propably but if you'd play the game, you would finish it 10 times.
So this will be awesum!

Fucking Hell Sentura, the ignorance here is rediculous. Mafia != GTA, they are not the same, play GTA3 and then Mafia and you'll notice a massive difference in just about everything. Also Mafia II is set in the 1950s, not 30s

Although they share the same gameplay style, GTA and Mafia are diferent games, and I prefer Mafia.
While GTA is more action based, arcade even, with lot's of fun mixed up, Mafia aims towards other fields like a very strong story telling, which always give you more motivation to keep on playing the game.
I know games are about "fun", but in my opinion is games like Mafia, Max Payne, Metal Gear, (Etc) that are really memorable, I like to call it: games with souls.
